Draws you in and keeps you guessing
Revisado: 03-21-24
It’s been a while since I’ve had a book I enjoyed as much as this. Drew me in right from the start and kept me guessing right to the end! I’m actually pretty bummed it’s done. Bonus points for a really fantastic narrator too!

His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Nobody can take you to another world quite like Stephen King (except maybe for Joe Hill, and we know where he gets it!)
I already miss Charlie & Radar and wish I could go back and live this adventure again for the first time.
Seth Numrich did a fantastic job of the narration and really helped bring the characters to life - and what a cast of characters they were. I miss them already.

Historia
When 16-year-old Amanda Verner's family decides to move from their small mountain cabin to the vast prairie, she hopes it is her chance for a fresh start. She can leave behind the memory of the past winter; of her sickly ma giving birth to a baby sister who cries endlessly; of the terrifying visions she saw as her sanity began to slip, the victim of cabin fever; and, most of all, of the boy she has been secretly meeting with as a distraction from her pain. The boy whose baby she now carries.

I saw this book described as this and had to give it a try - it definitely did not disappoint! It was scary, but not over the top and the Jorjeana Marie was the perfect choice as a narrator. I did feel the ending was a bit rushed, but overall this one hooked me and I enjoyed every minute!

Historia
Amy Jo Burns grew up in Mercury, Pennsylvania, an industrial town humbled by the steel collapse of the 1980s. Instead of the construction booms and twelve-hour shifts her parents’ generation had known, the Mercury Amy Jo knew was marred by empty houses, old strip mines, and vacant lots. The year Burns turned ten, this sleepy town suddenly woke up. Howard Lotte, its beloved piano teacher, was accused of sexually assaulting his female students.

I can't wait to listen again!
Revisado: 11-11-17
I absolutely loved this book. And, while I've just finished it and am anxious to give it the accolades it is due, I'm almost lost for words. Amy Jo Burns has a thoughtful and provocative writing style that makes it impossible not to get lost in the characters, places, and moods of the story.
She could not have picked a better person to read it as well. Jorjeana Marie was meant to read this book - I can't imagine anyone else would have done it it's full justice.
Just give it a listen - you'll be glad you did.

The Most Beautiful indeed......
Revisado: 08-13-17
I won't lie, I got sucked into this book because I had an interest in learning a bit about Prince. I was never a huge fan, but I always appreciated his incredible talent for making music and putting on a show.
But this is not the story of Prince - it's the story of Princess Mayte and her incredible spirit. Even if you've never heard a Prince song in your life, there's no way you won't be sucked into her incredible story and be laughing, crying and dancing right along with her.
I enjoyed every minute and it was made even more authentic by the fact that she read it herself. The true emotion came through loud and clear in every word she spoke. I can say now, with full conviction, I am definitely a huge Mayte fan!

There isn't much fun in the sun when a billionaire real estate tycoon is found murdered on the Tilt-a-Whirl at a seedy seaside amusement park in the otherwise quiet summer tourist town of Sea Haven. John Ceepak, a former MP just back from Iraq, has just joined the Sea Haven police department. The job offer came from an old Army buddy who hoped to give Ceepak at least a summer's worth of rest and relaxation to help him forget the horrors of war. Instead, Ceepak will head up the murder investigation.

Wasn't sure what to expect with this in the first 20 minutes or so, but it ended up being one of best audiobooks I've listened to in ages. A well written mystery that is packed with fun - great for my long commute.
I have to say though - the thing that really makes this book awesome is the narrator. Jeff Woodman absolutely makes this book!

What a wonderful story!
Revisado: 07-02-17
I absolutely loved this book! The writer is incredibly gifted at painting a picture that puts you right there with the characters - right down to the smells surrounding them.
The story of Ruth, Dora, Alice and Hank and the way their lives and stories intertwine is beautifully written and read wonderfully by each of the characters.
What a wonderful surprise!

This one really blew me away....
Revisado: 09-21-16
Let me start by saying that I drive 2 hours every day to and from work - so I listen to A LOT of audiobooks. This one was by far one of the best in a long time.
Yes, it was tough to listen to in parts and I didn't agree with many things I was hearing - but that's what, in my opinion, makes a great book! Something to challenge and make me think outside of my comfort zone.
The writing was brilliant and I found myself able to identify with each and every person and see things from their side. Not an easy task in a book with so many characters. And speaking of which - the narrator did a really fantastic job of covering so many characters. She was absolutely PERFECT for this book.
While this was not the sort of love story people expect - it was no doubt a love story, in what might otherwise be a hopeless place. I absolutely loved it. All the way.

The doctors call it Draco Incendia Trychophyton. To everyone else it's Dragonscale, a highly contagious, deadly spore that marks its hosts with beautiful black and gold marks across their bodies - before causing them to burst into flames. Another Great One!
Revisado: 06-04-16
I have to be honest and say that the concept of this story is out of the realm of what I would usually enjoy - but when Joe Hill and Kate Mulgrew combine forces I had to give it a chance.
At first I found our heroine Harper to be a bit weak and wishy washy, but she quickly proved herself to be of heroine status and I absolutely loved her character and the way she held everyone together through the good and bad - even when they were against her. The rag-tag group of survivors (I hate to call them "the sick") and their great adventure will stick with me and I'm hoping there is indeed more to come! *Do yourself a favour and listen alllllll the way to the end*
I do have to wonder if I would have stuck with this book had I been reading it vs. listening to it since it's quite what I usually go for. That said, Kate Mulgrew absolutely makes this book. She doesn't just read it, she PERFORMS it, as only she can. I can honestly say I'll miss hearing her voice now that I'm done. I'm thinking of listening to NOS4A2 again soon just to enjoy her reading style some more.
