Does Not Disappoint
Revisado: 06-02-24
This series is one of my favorites of all time! The storyline and character development is engaging, thoughtful, and entertaining. My only complaint is the time I have to wait between book releases. Keep ‘em coming!

Historia
We were outnumbered, outfought. Mankind was about to fall to the alien Flock. Our only chance was a desperate gamble, transforming Tier One SpecOps agents into deadly super soldiers. In the end, we won the war, but we lost the peace. The Flock surrendered and spent the next two hundred years making reparations, indentured to humanity, doing everything humans did not want to do. And the evolved super soldiers were consigned to an endless sleep. Ready if ever needed, but in time they became myths. Abandoned and forgotten.

Looking forward to the next book, but…
Revisado: 04-14-24
I appreciate the intricacies of the overall story. The character development is good, but a little thin in some places. Without giving the plot away, I want to say: Everything related to “save me” just became too tedious by the end. It actually caused me to be annoyed, rather than enjoy the culmination of this first book. But as I said, I’m looking forward to the next book.

Historia
The Aftermath of a stunning victory—especially an unexpected, complete, and final victory—should be high-fives all around, listening to politicians give boring congratulatory speeches, and a well-deserved rest for the Merry Band of Pirates. Yes, the galaxy is still a freakin' mess, but that is nothing new, and for a change, that can be someone else's problem. Until, you know, something really bad happens, and only the Pirates can deal with the problem... Or not.

Best end of series book ever!
Revisado: 01-07-23
To-date, I have never read an end series book that wrapped up every single storyline with such elegance. The character development and conclusions were stellar. I wish that I could duplicate Weeks’ writing, and subsequent reading experience in every book. I simply can’t say enough positive things to capture the quality of this book! Weeks and Vance - please carry on!

I Don’t Want a Piano
Revisado: 12-13-21
In all fairness, I have not completed this book. I found the first book in the series to be engaging with a fresh new twist on what has otherwise become a “same as it ever was” magical tale. I thoroughly enjoyed the performance of Vance and my 3 stars here are not because of his ability. Here’s the problem: Why am I forced to listen to cheesy piano music and other random sound effects throughout the entire book without warning? It’s so distracting and subpar that it ruins the entire experience.

Not a joy to experience
Revisado: 06-04-21
The story, I think, would be and perhaps is, interesting in itself if not for the way it was told. The only reason I finished the book is because I can’t seem to let go of not knowing how a book ends. It has been a long time since I listened to a story by a narrator that was so monotone.

Worth the Wait
Revisado: 02-27-21
My Only negative comment is that the author took too long for a book 3 while continuing with another series.
The character development is engaging and intriguing. While some story themes remain consistent others provide interesting twists.
I beseech the author: please do not make us wait two years for the next book!

I’m a big fan - but...
Revisado: 08-21-20
Just speaking strictly about the dramatization, and understanding this is not a traditional audiobook, it was hard to listen to.
You definitely have to be in a particular frame of mind to enjoy an audio drama. I was in that frame of mind and there was little enjoyment.
A good production crew should know that music doesn’t need to fill the background all the time. It is also my opinion that soft jazz music should never mix with celestial stories
Other sound effects didn’t make any sense to me, or were simply just altogether unnecessary. Also - I am wondering why there was a decision to have Nagatha portrayed as such a different character from all previous ones : some Skippy style harassment of Joe, not an endearing character, read more like a modern character rather than an older maternal type woman...not a fan.
So - biggest issues are mostly with production and some story choices. I did like the premise of the story overall. However, and I could be wrong about this, but from a armed forces perspective, I think many reactions of military personnel were way too cutsie - even in the context of the expeditionary force series, the merry band of Pirates, and the characteristics we love about Joe Bishop and Skippy. Just overly silly or blatant overacting.
Sigh...
If you decide to do another audio drama of the series, I will probably listen hoping that an upgrade happened.
Other than that, I will eagerly await the next normal ole audio book in the series!

Impressive story, labored details
Revisado: 07-07-20
The main reason I gave this story and overall rating of three stars was due to the laborious details of specific storylines that I believe could’ve been accomplished in short order.
While some of those story lines included information necessary for a subsequent segment, 100 words, instead of 1000 probably would have done the job.
