Historia
As David Brooks observes, “There is one skill that lies at the heart of any healthy person, family, school, community organization, or society: the ability to see someone else deeply and make them feel seen—to accurately know another person, to let them feel valued, heard, and understood.” And yet we humans don’t do this well. All around us are people who feel invisible, unseen, misunderstood. In How to Know a Person, Brooks sets out to help us do better, posing questions that are essential for all of us: If you want to know a person, what kind of attention should you cast on them?

Historia
Independence Day weekend, 1960: a young cop is murdered, shocking his close-knit community in Stamford, Connecticut. The killer remains at large, his identity still unknown. But on a beach not far away, a young Army doctor, on vacation from his post at a research lab in a maximum-security prison, faces a chilling realization. He knows who the shooter is. In fact, the man—a prisoner out on parole—had called him only days before. By helping his former charge and trainee, the doctor, a believer in second chances, may have inadvertently helped set the murder into motion.

Not a murder. Not a genealogy.
Revisado: 08-03-23
A very bloated true crime story about a life-long petty criminal who returned fire and killed a policeman, who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. ...and about the person who influenced the criminal be released from prison because he was adept at medical technology. Deep details about the families of the 3 main characters are uninteresting and unrelated.

In his first book, broadcaster Ari Shapiro takes us around the globe to reveal the stories behind narratives that are sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking, but always poignant. He details his time traveling on Air Force One with President Obama, or following the path of Syrian refugees fleeing war, or learning from those fighting for social justice both at home and abroad.

Historia
The most trusted explainer of the most mind-boggling concepts pulls back the veil of mystery that has too long cloaked the most valuable building blocks of modern science. Sean Carroll, with his genius for making complex notions entertaining, presents in his uniquely lucid voice the fundamental ideas informing the modern physics of reality. In the tradition of the legendary Richard Feynman lectures presented sixty years ago, this book is an inspiring, dazzling introduction to a way of seeing that will resonate across cultural and generational boundaries for many years to come.

Not suitable presentation as a book
Revisado: 01-27-23
This presentation is unsuitable as an audiobook, unless you intend to sit with the pdf and follow the basics of calculus required for this level of describing the subject matter. And the author spends considerable time doing such. I listen while doing other things, e.g, tedious activities often requiring use of my hands or legs, such as driving or sweeping the garage. I don't sit and listen. So, I returned the book. Carroll is a good writer and knows his stuff, but I am uninterested in a refresher in calculus and certainly not able to absorb it aurally.

Historia
Norman Mailer's Pulitzer Prize-winning and unforgettable classic about convicted killer Gary Gilmore now in audio. Arguably the greatest book from America's most heroically ambitious writer, The Executioner's Song follows the short, blighted life of Gary Gilmore who became famous after he robbed two men in 1976 and killed them in cold blood. After being tried and convicted, he immediately insisted on being executed for his crime. To do so, he fought a system that seemed intent on keeping him alive long after it had sentenced him to death.

Excellent Production.
Revisado: 10-12-22
Mailer & Schiller's book was an amazing piece of work, brought to life by Maxwell Hamilton's superb narration. My only issue was Hamilton's mispronunciation of too many words. One of the best of my ~500 audio books.

Historia
Frontier: the word carries the inevitable scent of the West. But before Custer or Lewis and Clark, before the first Conestoga wagons rumbled across the Plains, it was the East that marked the frontier - the boundary between complex Native cultures and the first colonizing Europeans. Here is the older, wilder, darker history of a time when the land between the Atlantic and the Appalachians was contested ground - when radically different societies adopted and adapted the ways of the other, while struggling for control of what all considered to be their land.

Hard to follow
Revisado: 09-18-22
I'm not sorry I listened to the book. But I found it very tedious and hard to follow with so many characters, groupings, places, and events. The author should have used a more discrete time-line to anchor his story.

Historia
In many ways, insects are just like us. Elaborate mating rituals, a variety of parenting styles, and a plethora of careers — from architects and engineers, to farmers and ranchers. Like us, they’re able to share complex information essential for survival, significantly impact their environment, and recycle. But insects outdo us in so many respects. They are terrestrial, but some can live underwater.

Not An Entomology Course
Revisado: 05-08-22
These lectures are well-delivered and cover a broad scope of biological/ecological/historical/agronomic/economic material similar to a non-majors insect natural history course. For that, it is well-done, but if you are wanting a college-level entomology course, this is not a good choice. PDF is excellent.
