A true book of reason
Revisado: 01-06-25
I loved the story of Nick and his buddies hiking Glacier National Park and his descriptions just give so much life to this read. What I lived most was his ability to share the human story of the current USA and its politics in a fashion that you’d hope that someone would listen to reason. Hoping that so many Americans would look at what they are destroying. Nick I wish you’d run for office. I feel you’d be another Jimmy Carter. Thank you Nick for your true candor. You are an amazing human being.

Fantastic work by author and narrator
Revisado: 10-17-24
This book was a page turner or in my case stuck in your car and can’t stop the book! Beautiful descriptions of the Catholic cardinal community and the process to elect a pope. Then you throw in a mystery that was so well done. The ending will blow you away! But what really struck me was finding a sense of spiritual renewal. Being a rebellious Catholic and have lost faith in any church, the words of the author stirred that sense of God and goodness within a church. But the mystery just ties it all together and I was so lost into the world of the Conclave. Very well done. Now I can watch the movie.

Historia
The Trail is a moving story of how nature helps us find what’s missing in our lives. The tale begins with Gil, who in the wake of his father’s death and recently fired from his job, agrees to accompany his father’s old hiking partner Syd on a month-long trek on the John Muir Trail. There’s just one problem: Gil hates camping and is woefully unprepared for the rigors of the journey. Moreover, he soon learns Syd may not survive the hike.

Food for the soul
Revisado: 07-17-24
I loved this book. It is a fictional story with nonfiction history that grips your soul. But you have to get through the first couple of chapters before it really takes you in. The narrator really had the character of the whiney city entitled sarcastic boy voice down. That was what was distracting. But now that I have completed the story I wouldn’t have changed that first chapters voice. Because that young man changed into a very human being. I learned so much and took those contemplative lessons and want add them into my life. This author created a modern narrative similar to Its a Wonderful Life movie. The author gave us incredible narrative visuals of the Sierras that I felt like I was seeing what the characters were seeing. The book had so many funny moments but more so it stirred the soul contemplating life and choices. I loved the quotes from some of the greatest naturalists the world has ever seen or read about and the real history of this amazing trail. Just read it! You’ll not regret it!

Winner of the 1982 National Book Award for Biography, Mornings on Horseback is the brilliant biography of the young Theodore Roosevelt. Hailed as a masterpiece by Newsday, it is the story of a remarkable little boy -- seriously handicapped by recurrent and nearly fatal attacks of asthma -- and his struggle to manhood.

Revisado: 03-06-24
Amazing story of Theodore Roosevelt. The narrator was a bit slow sometimes but he gives you an opportunity to digest what was read to you. So much about the true family that I wish we had a Roosevelt in this generation of politicians. He was larger than life and being able to follow along in his life through this book was incredible. You will not be disappointed in this read.

Historia
Arabian Sands is Wilfred Thesiger’s stunning account of five years spent crossing the Arabian Peninsula by foot and on camels, with nomadic Bedouin tribesmen as guides. Travelling between 1945 and 1950, the British explorer treks through Yemen, the Empty Quarter, Oman, and parts of the then Trucial States, crossing and re-crossing around 250,000 miles of this most inhospitable terrain. He was the first European ever to set eyes on the dunes and wadis of these deserts.

Beautifully written and told
Revisado: 12-06-23
This was a peak into late 1940s. His historic retelling of his journey of Saudi Arabia is amazing. The narrator carries the author’s story so we feel as if we are riding our own camel along long red deserts and mountains in the search for water and food. Learning alongside him of all the different nomadic tribes to become one of them for a short time. This story caused me to research and want me to see for myself the beauty of Arabia.

Historia
In 2009, Mary Jeanne Packer founded Battenkill Fibers Carding & Spinning Mill to work with small farms, yarn companies, and even individual handspinners who wanted great yarn. The partnerships built around the mill are helping revitalize the regional wool economy and sustain shepherds and shops alike. We are far from the days when 13 water-powered mills lined the Battenkill River in Greenwich, New York, all processing American wool, but through collaborations across the textile industry, the prospects for high-quality yarn look bright. For a farm with a few dozen sheep, a local yarn store ...

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.
