Historia
In the aftermath of a flood that washes away much of a small Tennessee town, evangelical preacher Asher Sharp offers shelter to two gay men. In doing so, he starts to see his life anew - and risks losing everything: his wife, locked into her religious prejudices; his congregation, which shuns Asher after he delivers a passionate sermon in defense of tolerance; and his young son, Justin, caught in the middle of what turns into a bitter custody battle. With no way out but ahead, Asher takes Justin and flees to Key West, where he hopes to find his brother, Luke, whom he'd turned against years ago after Luke came out.

A book of forgiveness
Revisado: 02-05-20
I strongly recommend this story. There is much to be learned here, especially about forgiveness, and how hard it is to forgive yourself, as well as others. The reading of this story is especially strong and well done.

Interesting to be delivered in chapter installments
Revisado: 01-11-20
But, I found the overall story not a riveting one, though completely pleasant, and a good diversion as I drove. But, I loved other books by Alexander McCall Smith. So, back to his ones set in Africa...

Historia
Bruno is a former soldier who has embraced the pleasures and slow rhythms of country life - living in his restored shepherd's cottage; patronizing the weekly market; sparring with, and basically ignoring, the European Union bureaucrats from Brussels. He has a gun but never wears it; he has the power to arrest but never uses it. But then the murder of an elderly North African who fought in the French army changes everything and galvanizes Bruno's attention.

Mystery in a small French village
Revisado: 03-23-19
This was just what I was looking for! It is light listening (reading) and gives the flavor of French culture in a village. The mystery is a good one, also steeped in French culture. I’m looking forward to finding more books in this series.

Not for me!
Revisado: 05-30-16
I am not impressed by zombies who squeeze a man's balls until he passes out. I do not find it interesting to read about dried blood covering the floor of the hospital. That's about as far as I got...

In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

So hard to put down!
Revisado: 01-11-15
I've carried my iPhone, with this book on Audible, everywhere. I've made up trips to the store do I could continue "reading", gotten up early, stayed up late, listened while doing all sorts of tasks... The Help is a riveting book! I grew up in Ky, with cousins in Jackson, Mississippi, during the time period of The Help. I saw how difficult life was in the south, so much distrust, and so much love- and hate. This story took me into the heart of the time period so completely. I'm grateful for having "read" this book. I'll be thinking about it for a long time.
