Historia
Only four men in American history have been promoted to the five-star rank of Admiral of the Fleet: William Leahy, Ernest King, Chester Nimitz, and William Halsey. These four men were the best and the brightest the navy produced, and together they led the U.S. Navy to victory in World War II, establishing the United States as the world's greatest fleet. In The Admirals, award-winning historian Walter R. Borneman tells their story in full detail for the first time.

Historia
“AIR RAID, PEARL HARBOR. THIS IS NOT DRILL.” At 7:58 a.m. on December 7, 1941, an officer at the Ford Island Command Center frantically typed what would become one of the most famous radio dispatches in history as the Japanese navy launched a surprise aerial assault on the American navy stationed in Hawaii. In a little over two hours, the Japanese killed more than 2,400 Americans and propelled the US’s entry into World War II. Dead Reckoning is the story of the mission to avenge that devastating strike.

I love reading about history of Guadalcanal
Revisado: 06-09-24
Overall, the book was good, I thought it was a little too much spent on personal lines of people involved, especially admiral Yamamoto.
I have listen to four or five books about Guadalcanal plus 2 about operation vengeance. I think there’s better books out there to get the most information.
Having said that, I am glad to have listened to this book.

Historia
With The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors and Ship of Ghosts, James D. Hornfischer created essential and enduring narratives about America’s World War II Navy, works of unique immediacy distinguished by rich portraits of ordinary men in extremis and exclusive new information. Now he does the same for the deadliest, most pivotal naval campaign of the Pacific war: Guadalcanal. Neptune’s Inferno is at once the most epic and the most intimate account ever written of the contest for control of the seaways of the Solomon Islands.

Most informative book
Revisado: 02-24-24
At this point, this is the sixth book I’ve read about the Guadalcanal campaign. I have been trying to focus on the first 13 months of the war because I think that it was the only time in World War II that the US arm forces weren’t Ready to go up against a Japanese nation, who was hardened by war
The Navy had a lot to learn, and the Guadalcanal campaign was there a classroom
They had a steep cost to pay for that education
I highly recommend this book.

Historia
Focusing for the first time on why attorney general Robert F. Kennedy wasn’t killed in 1963 instead of on why President John F. Kennedy was, Mark Shaw offers a stunning and provocative assassination theory that leads directly to the family patriarch, Joseph P. Kennedy. Mining fresh information and more than 40 new interviews, Shaw weaves a spellbinding narrative involving Mafia don Carlos Marcello; Jack Ruby (Lee Harvey Oswald’s killer); Ruby’s attorney, Melvin Belli; and, ultimately, the Kennedy brothers and their father.

Revisado: 02-04-24
Incredible amount of information, which seems to be substantiated. I remember many of the things he talked about. I remember the assassination and how everyone I knew figured it was a Mob
Hit
I read the Warren commission and thought it was a little bit far reaching to say it was not a conspiracy. I guess just a feeling my head.
The book is very interesting

I really like the details, other books I’ve read just give you overall View of these engagements, this book gives you much more, including all the names of the pilots that survived them or killed.
That seem to make it more personable. Enjoyed very much.

Historia
In 1943, the United States military began to plan one of the most dramatic secret missions of World War II. Its code name was Operation Vengeance. Naval Intelligence had intercepted the itinerary of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, the commander in chief of the Japanese Combined Fleet, whose stealth attack on Pearl Harbor precipitated America’s entry into the war. Harvard-educated, Yamamoto was a close confidant of Emperor Hirohito and a brilliant tactician who epitomized Japanese military might.

Extremely well told story
Revisado: 10-29-23
I’ve read a few books about the Guadalcanal campaign, but this book tells the story in a nice even flow, which helped me understand more.l
The story about how the P-38s went about shooting down Yamamoto and most of his staff is truly amazing. The description of the controversy afterwards was described really well.
