Historia
Sometimes you have to be locked up to find true freedom. David Mike swore allegiance to his country in 1987, only to be dishonorably discharged for desertion. One bad choice after another landed him at Fort Leavenworth, a notorious military prison in Kansas, where he starts a new life as an inmate. Follow his journey as he claws his way toward Christ and away from the past that yearns to destroy him. Dishonor: One Soldier’s Journey from Desertion to Redemption is a vulnerable and compelling look at a life gone wrong.

Honest vulnerable and moving Real-Life
Revisado: 01-17-25
I was reluctant to stop listening. I carried the audio around with me at home and while driving, amd even a little at work! I know the author from a John Acuff group, and I had sent his book to a young friend who is incarcerated last year. Only now I had made the time to listen. The details he recounts leave little to the imagination. The scope of suspense, empathy, and emotions is tremendous and encompassing. God's redemption story is miraculous in each life. But perhaps even a little more so for David. I'm left with praise for God's providence, and admiration for David's integrity and honorable discharge of the new life he's inherited.

mind boggling history, engineering, connections
Revisado: 01-03-25
Everything about the story, including the research, the topics, and pace is epic. I learned so much, exclaiming aloud several times as familiar names were tied into the narrative, or excitedly finishing a sentence when I noticed the engineering ideas coming to a conclusion. Mountainous industry and political figures are involved. There is a LOT of detail, and sometimes it can seem tedious. But almost immediately, a new scene unfolds, or another mighty name enters the story. This book could serve as a semester study in a history class, econ or political science, engineering, or business. simply epic.

Historia
As 1909 dawned, the greatest jewels of exploration - set at the world's frozen extremes - lay unclaimed: the North and South Poles and the so-called "Third Pole", the pole of altitude, located in unexplored heights of the Himalaya. Before the calendar turned, three expeditions had faced death, mutiny, and the harshest conditions on the planet to plant flags at the furthest edges of the Earth.

Spectacular Epic Captures It All
Revisado: 06-15-24
The research and storytelling are first rate. Weaving and blending through overlaid timeliness, the tales of mighty adventures unfold. The details bring it all alive, from the extremes experienced in the remote harsh polar regions, to the splendor of discovering unknown Himalayan peaks. Spectacular!

While American church culture (and American culture at large) seems largely designed for the extroverted, it's estimated that half of the American population is introverted, and they're often left wondering how, even if, they fit in the kingdom of God. As one of them, popular radio host Brant Hansen brings news. It's wonderful, refreshing, and never-been-said-this-way-before good news.

Historia
A remarkable true story of adventure, betrayal, and survival set in one of the world's most inhospitable places. In 1906, from atop a snow-swept hill in the ice fields northwest of Greenland, hundreds of miles from another human being, Commander Robert E. Peary spotted a line of mysterious peaks looming in the distance. He called this unexplored realm "Crocker Land". Scientists and explorers agreed that the world-famous explorer had discovered a new continent rising from the frozen Arctic Ocean.

massively detailed
Revisado: 06-25-23
Apparently deeply researched, the stories within the story develop coherently, and give a richness to the arctic exploration adventure. lots of the expected challenges arise, along with plenty of unusual twists. the author takes us all the way to the end of each man's story, which fills in some interesting details near the end. it's a long book, but that seemed fitting considering the time span involved. the reader kept the pace well, and felt personable.

Historia
For the first time ever Roland Huntford presents each man's account of the race to the South Pole in their own words. In 1910, Robert Falcon Scott and Roald Amundsen set sail for Antarctica, each from his own starting point, and the epic race for the South Pole was on. 2010 marks the centenary of the last great race of terrestrial discovery. For the first time Scott's unedited diary entries run alongside those of Amundsen and Bjaaland, never before translated into English.

A More Clear Picture
Revisado: 07-28-22
The readings of the daily journals in parallel allows a stark view of the dual, dueling expeditions. this will be hard to forget. The dramatacized characterization and accented voices for each party was a distraction. I believe also that there was some dramatic license influencing certain inflection or emphases. Ultimately, the epicness of the overall story is what lingers.
