Excellent science showing how motherhood improves our brains!
Revisado: 06-30-23
The author gives so many great and interesting scientific studies proving motherhood improves brains. She does it in a way that non-scientists like me, can understand:) She throws in a lot of humor to make it even more enjoyable. It’s sad that 17 years after it was published, mothers still aren’t given enough support in our American culture, even when there isn’t a pandemic, and we are trying to balance more and more which harms all of us.

Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.

I think this book will assist us to become happier and healthier people if we pause to consider what is written. It’s very simple, yet difficult to go against our workaholic culture. We have been indoctrinated to work excessively and wonder why we feel burned out.

Such a humble, yet amusingly funny story!
Revisado: 12-17-22
Natalie talks about her family is such an amusing way! Often, I would chuckle out loud. Yet, it had a serious side too:) Zen is a huge part of her life and it’s hilarious how her parents try to understand why she gravitates toward it. She has such a gift for storytelling and the interview is interesting too. Just as she points out other’s flaws, she accepts them, including her’s, with humility and love.

These stories gave me insights into the lives of many people. We all know how hard it must be to live with a disability, but I didn’t realize all the ways I make it more difficult, mainly because of my indifference:( There is so much that can be done to make their lives a bit easier! I think if every teenager read this, they would contribute in making our world better for disabled people and all of us!

In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?

Revisado: 11-29-22
This book is very inspiring! I hope it is a bestseller because it’s suggestions would definitely improve our world. He makes excellent points backed by scientific research, that if we would support children and their families from conception through adulthood, we could avoid most trauma that is so expensive financially and emotionally, and make our world a much better place for all.

Historia
The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes-in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body. This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering.
