Can not wait for the next book
Revisado: 10-18-24
Melanie is a master story teller and her retellings of classic fairy tales are enthralling and enchanting. I am waiting for the next book to be out in audio format but have read all her other books and bonus chapters on her website and loved every one of them.

Wonderful!
Revisado: 09-26-24
Expertly narrated each character distinct from the others.
Anne’s house of dreams is a beautifully written story I laughed and cried with the characters. L.M. Montgomery knows acutely how to relate the joys and tragedies of early marriage and complicated friendships in a way that is true to life. I loved every minute of it.

Excellent retelling and wonderful extension of the series

I can’t her enough of Melanie Cellier’s fictional worlds! This was a wonderful retelling and I’ve listened to it twice through in the last couple months (along with listening to other works of Cellier’s as well). Can’t wait to find out what happens next in the series!

Historia
Beauty’s life is the stuff of fairy tales. The youngest in her family, Beauty isn’t trying to catch Stephan’s eye. He is the lord baron’s heir, well above her family’s modest station, but when he kisses her hand at a party, Beauty is swept away by his charm, his wit, and his passionate declarations of love. Hearts can be untamable creatures, especially when touched by the fires of first love, and Beauty doesn’t see the truth of Stephan’s intentions until it is too late. Until he stops asking for Beauty’s love—and simply takes it from her one night despite her refusal.

Whimsy, clean romance, and MC trauma blend perfectly for a retelling that will pull on your heart
Revisado: 12-15-23
Beauty’s journey through her story is a triumphant arc. She overcomes feeling alone and different, outcast, and even, with the help of those who love her, is able to also overcome horrible trauma. Lowham has created a retelling that is impactful and beautiful. I cried for the character as we learned of her past, laughed with her and Beast as they played with wooden swords and read books, held my breath as the fairy tried to trick characters and smiled with joy as the story came to its happily ever after. This story is definitely worth your time. I would love to read/listen to any other retellings Lowham may write in the future.

Historia
Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

Abused girl wants to reform playboy
Revisado: 02-10-22
Jane is abused her whole life and the first man that falls for her is an irresponsible rich play boy who commands her all the time. Turns out he already has a wife who had mental health problems so he keeps her shut up in his house. He pretends to woo another woman too just to make Jane jealous. Jane deserves love without petty games but she doesn't know how to live without abuse so even after she escapes and gets her independence and a fortune for the first time she still goes running back to the playboy she wants to reform. The reader is forced to believe that he is reformed now because his wife took her own life and he was permanently injured and became disabled. It's a lot to swallow and the themes don't translate well to our modern sensibilities, however it is an interesting study on the mindset of the mid 1800's.
