Historia
It is now 100 years since drugs were first banned in the United States. On the eve of this centenary, journalist Johann Hari set off on an epic three-year, 30,000-mile journey into the war on drugs. What he found is that more and more people all over the world have begun to recognize three startling truths: Drugs are not what we think they are. Addiction is not what we think it is. And the drug war has very different motives to the ones we have seen on our TV screens for so long.

Incredible
Revisado: 09-16-18
I work emergency medicine and often see the effects of the drug war every day. I've had many thoughts on the war and people that take drugs over the years.. This book has really changed the way I think. There's fact after fact and story after story. It's hard not to see the global impacts of the drug war after reading this book. Highly recommend!

Historia
The dramatic story of fugitive slaves and the antislavery activists who defied the law to help them reach freedom. They are little known to history: Sydney Howard Gay, an abolitionist newspaper editor; Louis Napoleon, a furniture polisher; Charles B. Ray, a black minister. At great risk they operated the Underground Railroad in New York, a city whose businesses, banks, and politics were deeply enmeshed in the slave economy.

Good but narrow focus

The book is about the Underground Rail Road in NYC specifically, not the rail road as a whole. extremely informational and the reading was very nice. just not what I had originally expected.

In this groundbreaking historical expose, Douglas A. Blackmon brings to light one of the most shameful chapters in American history - an Age of Neoslavery that thrived from the aftermath of the Civil War through the dawn of World War II.

Absolutely Incredible.
Revisado: 06-20-16
Opens the mind to a side history never told and needing to be exposed. I found myself constantly pausing after some parts to simply reflect on what I just read- not because it was difficult to read, but because it was unbelievable that this was real life.
This book is one of my all time favorites. would definitely 100% recommend this to others.
