Smiling in Anticipation
Revisado: 03-26-25
You know you really have an emotional connection to the characters when you start to smile and evoke emotional responses just listening to what's happening to them. I enjoyed the whole series. Murder is never good but the development of Harriet and Curand just gets me in this one. I hope this isn't the last we hear of them. I'm smiling in anticipation for the next story.

Historia
When Jeanie’s aunt gifts her the beloved Pumpkin Spice Café in the small town of Dream Harbor, Jeanie jumps at the chance for a fresh start away from her very dull desk job. Logan is a local farmer who avoids Dream Harbor’s gossip at all costs. But Jeanie’s arrival disrupts Logan’s routine and he wants nothing to do with the irritatingly upbeat new girl, except that he finds himself inexplicably drawn to her. Will Jeanie’s happy-go-lucky attitude win over the grumpy-but-gorgeous Logan, or has this city girl found the one person in town who won’t fall for her charm, or her pumpkin spice lattes.

Hit Them Again
Revisado: 09-04-24
I liked the overall story and the reader was very good at her character impersonations. My favorite part was when one of the characters gets slapped. By that point I was frustrated with them and was too happy a character acted out my feelings. The fact I could feel a bit of emotional investment towards this story to me is a sign of a great story. I look forwarding to reading more.

Nice Story but too weepy
Revisado: 08-30-24
I listened to this book because I enjoyed the first book. Overall I liked the story, however, I found the main female lead too weepy in this one.

Historia
Abandoned pregnant and penniless on the teeming streets of London, 16-year-old Amber St. Clare manages, by using her wits, beauty, and courage, to climb to the highest position a woman could achieve in Restoration England - that of favorite mistress of the Merry Monarch, Charles II. From whores and highwaymen to courtiers and noblemen, from events such as the Great Plague and the Fire of London to the intimate passions of ordinary - and extraordinary - men and women, Amber experiences it all.

Tempermental character
Revisado: 06-25-24
The rise of the character to her peak was interesting. However, I have to conclude she was not the most loveable character. I wish there was more to the story at the end because I think it would've represented a possible opening for a character arc. So while I was a little disappointed at the way it ended, I guess my personal closing emotion toward Amber was satisfaction enough.

Stories Within Stories
Revisado: 05-09-24
I listened to all three books and loved each one. I love the stories within the story that make me laugh out loud and give me a great sense of the characters of the people they befriended.

Historia
The Margrave of Thornbeck has to find a bride - fast. He invites 10 noble-born ladies who meet the king's approval to be his guests at Thornbeck Castle for two weeks - a time to test these ladies and reveal their true characters. Avelina has only two instructions: keep her true identity a secret and make sure the margrave doesn't select her as his bride. Since the latter seems unlikely, she concentrates on not getting caught. No one must know she is merely a maidservant sent by the Earl of Plimmwald to stand in for his daughter, Dorothea.

A little strange but loved it
Revisado: 06-30-23
I loved the story and I thought it was little strange because it seemed to use things I associated with the British in a German context.
I especially loved the heroine, even though I thought she was little daft or dense at times. I found my self getting frustrated and asking why doesn't she do this or say that. But to me that is a good sign of a really good story because it draws you in as if it were real.

Historia
Dorothea Brooke is an ardent idealist who represses her vivacity and intelligence for the cold, theological pedant Casaubon. One man understands her true nature: the artist Will Ladislaw. But how can love triumph against her sense of duty and Casaubon’s mean spirit? Meanwhile, in the little world of Middlemarch, the broader world is mirrored: the world of politics, social change, and reforms, as well as betrayal, greed, blackmail, ambition, and disappointment.

Difficult Read, but Helpful Narration
Revisado: 02-07-23
The story had so many characters and the descriptions were so wordy in the beginning that I wasn't sure if I could bear listening the full length of the book. I'm grateful to the narrator whose excellent character voices made it easier to bear and distinguish the characters, even if I didn't always understand what those characters were saying due to the accents. Overall, once I got past the beginning and the stories finally started to take shape I thought the book was pretty good overall.

Short and Sweet
Revisado: 10-20-22
I love this novella. It was a random listen that was so worth the time. I found myself wishing there were a series of these or more chapters. It wasn't what I expected from the beginning, but that made it even better. The characters feel very real and relatable in some ways.
