Great listen, bad guide book
Revisado: 11-09-23
The audible part is great. The author has an seamless way to introduce different concepts. However, there is no structure to the content. For example, it does not say Chapter 1, Chapter 2 etc. Furthermore, the accompanying pdf (which is essential to see spelling etc) does not follow the audible structrure. Also it does not provide Chapters as in the Audible app. Therefore, it makes the user like me confused. These issues could have been easily corrected but the author did not care enough to do that.

Historia
Ulysses is regarded by many as the single most important novel of the 20th century. It tells the story of one day in Dublin, June 16th 1904, largely through the eyes of Stephen Dedalus (Joyce's alter ego from Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man) and Leopold Bloom, an advertising salesman. Both begin a normal day, and both set off on a journey around the streets of Dublin, which eventually brings them into contact with one another.

Pain in the neck book
Revisado: 01-08-23
Even though the narrator did a great job, this book is an enormous bore. Surely there are other books worthy of Top 10.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Historia
An instant New York Times best seller, Dan Lyons' "hysterical" (Recode) memoir, hailed by the Los Angeles Times as "the best book about Silicon Valley," takes listeners inside the maddening world of fad-chasing venture capitalists, sales bros, social climbers, and sociopaths at today's tech startups. For 25 years Dan Lyons was a magazine writer at the top of his profession - until one Friday morning when he received a phone call: Poof. His job no longer existed. "I think they just want to hire younger people," his boss at Newsweek told him.

Take it with a grain of salt
Revisado: 05-08-16
This is what happens when a holier-than-thou, arrogant employee meets an infantile startup culture. The story had to be told but don't fully trust the narrative. The author shares plenty of blame.

Can God be revived in a skeptical age? What would it take to give people a spiritual life more powerful than anything in the past? Deepak Chopra tackles these issues with eloquence and insight in this book. He proposes that God lies at the source of human awareness. Therefore, any person can find the God within that transforms everyday life.

Very heartfelt work
Revisado: 04-11-15
I had long considered Deepak Chopra as bit pretentious. But this book is solid as a scholarly and inspired work. I also recommend watching his pbs video on the same topic. Both clarifies so much about the concept of god. I have started daily meditation practice inspired by this book.

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

An excruciatingly boring book
Revisado: 09-21-14
Would you try another book from Gillian Flynn and/or Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne ?
No
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The twisted plot line is imaginative. But the first person narration by two of the most repulsively boring characters in recent literature makes it a chore to listen to.
Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne – was your favorite?
Neither (It is not a judgement of the narrators, but the characters)
Could you see Gone Girl being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
I see Ben Affleck tailor-made for Nick Dunn. Not sure of the female character
Any additional comments?
Here is my full review:
This is the most painstakingly boring book I have ever listened to. The happiest task I have done in a while is deleting the damn audio book from my iPhone after finishing.
Why?
Many reasons. Partly because this narrative is in first person by two characters who are repulsively boring. The narrators, who are cast perfectly to the characters, does such a good job that it backfires mightily for this audio book. They just amplify the my dislike of the characters. If I was reading a physical book, I would have skimmed many pages. I cannot do that with audio version.
In other words, every half hour I devoted to this book in my afternoon commutes was like sitting in a dentist chair. Imagine getting your teeth cleaned everyday for three months.
The first part of the book is excruciatingly boring. That is 10 hours.
Things get better in the second part. But you have to suppress all your commonsense questions to get on with the story line.
Nonetheless, the author is very imaginative with the plot. That gives this book three stars instead of two.
The only reason I completed this book is the sunk cost of few initial hours listened, and a personal challenge I gave to myself to finish it. Believe me, I gave up on this book at least five times and one time I actually deleted it! I downloaded it back as a personal challenge and because of all the damn glowing reviews in this site.
Bottom line: If you are deciding on what to listen to next, my advice is to move on and get a better book. I am sure there are many better options in this site.
Thank you for reading my review.
