Too scattered
Revisado: 02-17-25
While a mystery needs a few good red herrings, this one seemed to have nothing but misdirect. I found most characters totally unlikeable and none very interesting. The ending seemed to come out of nowhere, but that may be because I lost interest halfway through the book.

It’s the opening night of The Manor, the newest and hottest luxury resort, and no expense, small or large, has been spared. The infinity pool sparkles; the “Manor Mule” cocktail (grapefruit, ginger, vodka, and a dash of CBD oil) is being poured with a heavy hand. Everyone is wearing linen.

The narrators did a wonderful job, but there was too much switching between characters and time periods.

Hoping for a sequel
Revisado: 12-06-21
I absolutely loved this book! The author has woven a very complex mystery with full-bodied characters that hold your interest from first page to last. I am really hoping there will be a sequel.

Historia
A dinner party at an English mansion with some stuffy, not-very-close friends is not exactly Jude's cup of tea. But the practically mummified torso of a woman found in the cellar is much more up Jude's alley. Once again, the two middle-aged women from Fethering, Jude and her reluctant neighbor, Carole, find themselves embroiled in another puzzling whodunit.

Disappointing
Revisado: 06-27-21
The characters of Carole and Jude were as enjoyable as ever, but the plot was weak. The twist at the end came out of nowhere, as if the author wrote himself into a corner and was at a loss to come up with a murderer.

Great story, but...
Revisado: 06-01-21
The story was good, if mildly convoluted, but the narrator was horrible. I had to keep adjusting the speed as sometimes she spoke too fast. Also, her portrayals of the characters were weak and nothing like I imagined they should be. I may read the Kindle books for the remainder of the series.

In the dead of the night, a man is found murdered, locked in the stocks on the village green. Unfortunately for Superintendent Hannasyde, the deceased is Andrew Vereker, a man hated by nearly everyone, especially his odd and unhelpful family members. The Verekers are as eccentric as they are corrupt, and it will take all Hannasyde's skill at detection to determine who's telling the truth, and who is pointing him in the wrong direction. The question is: who in this family is clever enough to get away with murder?

Worst thing I have read in years!
Revisado: 05-19-21
I couldn't even finish this one. The characters were truly beyond belief. They were both imbecilic and one-dimensional. Even if the author were trying to sell this as a period piece that reflected the careless nature of upper-class England during the early 20th century there is so much that is totally over done. For a while I thought that this trite characterization of the siblings was for comic relief but it stopped being funny about 45 minutes into the book. Don't waste your money.

Great New Edition to Kelly Porter Series
Revisado: 04-22-21
The narration on the story was perfect. The characters had great new dimension and the setting was, as always, breathtaking. tThe one thing I would suggest is better editing to reduce the length. I found my mind drifting in spots when Lynch became repetitive or predictable. The story would move better with a bit less unnecessary detail.
