Against a teeming canvas of Borgia politics, Niccolò Machiavelli and Leonardo da Vinci come together to unmask an enigmatic serial killer, as we learn the secret history behind one of the most controversial works in the western canon, The Prince. What on Earth is she saying? The nobbles.........
Revisado: 12-09-12
The female non-Englsh speaking illiterate narrator destroys this possibly interesting book. What a disaster! Who on Earth chose this woman to read in a language she does not understand? "The nobbles........" I think was supposed to be "nobles." I could not coninue. " The nobbles....." " the nobbles....." Argh. Shame. A total waste of a credit.

How could the performance have been better?
Once again, an author truly ruins her own excellent book by insisting on reading it aloud. This author has an awful speech impediment; someone should have stopped her! Honestly!

Ridiculous Sound Effects
Revisado: 01-16-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Don't listen to this unless you can't pay attention to an audio book. Why on Earth do they insist on the shooting noises and the explosions? Mr. Baldacci has so much trouble writing about action shots that he needs sound effects? Phooey.

What?
Revisado: 04-24-11
This is obviously a book for the USA haters; good job on that. What has the main character being a Muslim have to do with Katrina? I don't appreciate being hit over the head with a sledge hammer.

How Not to Produce an Audio Book
Revisado: 12-21-10
Why did they use different actors to read the various parts, thereby constantly breaking the flow? Why use sound effects? Is phoney gunfire really necessary? Is this an audio book or a radio play? These are all questions that must have occurred to the producers. If all the audio books I bought were this poor, Audible dot com would sell me no more of these "productions" to me.

Historia
Patty and Walter Berglund were the new pioneers of old St. Paul - the gentrifiers, the hands-on parents, the Whole Foods generation. Patty was the ideal sort of neighbor, who could tell you where to recycle your batteries and how to get the local cops to do their job. She was an enviably perfect mother and the wife of Walter's dreams. Together with Walter - environmental lawyer, commuter cyclist, total family man - she was doing her small part to build a better world.

My Eyes Glaze Over
Revisado: 11-26-10
Reading these reviews of Jonathan Franzen's "Freedom a Novel" certainly proves the old maxim "do not argue over matters of taste." I hesitate to post my review, as I don't really have the right to review a book I did not finish. However, as I grow older I find my time is too valuable and life too short to bother with books I hate so vehemently, and I feel I must spare some innocent Audible fan so many hours of pain and boredom. In a nutshell: I hated the characters, didn't care anything about them, and very, very strongly disliked the narrator. b e w a r e

“It happened fast. Thirty-two minutes for one world to die, another to be born". An epic and gripping tale of catastrophe and survival, The Passage is the story of Amy - abandoned by her mother at the age of six, pursued, and then imprisoned by the shadowy figures behind a government experiment of apocalyptic proportions. But Special Agent Brad Wolgast, the lawman sent to track her down, is disarmed by the curiously quiet girl and risks everything to save her. As the experiment goes nightmarishly wrong, Wolgast secures her escape - but he can’t stop society’s collapse.

I agree with another reviewer that this book is "gaseous windbagism" I can't believe that I wasted so many hours listening to Scott Brick's monotone; I finally dropped it with three hours to go. Someone owes me two credits! Argh. I should have known better. Reader/listener beware!

Historia
"If Robert Littell didn't invent the American spy novel," says Tom Clancy, "he should have." In this spectacular Cold-War-as-Alice-in-Wonderland epic, Littell, "the American le Carre," takes us down the rabbit hole and into the labyrinthine world of espionage that has been the CIA for the last half-century. "Ostensibly a single novel, The Company can also be listened to as an anthology of cracking good spy stories," says ( Publishers Weekly).

A Great Book Poorly Read
Revisado: 04-21-10
I cannot add anything new to the many 5-star reviews already published here. As a huge fan of audio books, I must comment, however, on the unbearably horrible reading by the usually-terrific Scott Brick. What happened, Mr. Brick? Was it all just too long for you? I realize that only a student of the Russian language could be expected to wade through the tongue-twists of Russian pronunciation. That you couldn't handle "Lomonosov," "Novodevichy," or "Peredlkino" is both understandable and forgivable. But your ridiculous "daka" for "dacha" over and over and over again is simply mystifying. Wasn't there anyone to set you straight? Here's an offer you can't refuse: next time you need to read some Russian, get in touch with me and I will give you a 15-minute briefing FOR FREE! Hoping to hear from you one day.--MamaLana
