An astoundingly great story
Revisado: 12-31-20
What an utterly amazing story. The skill of the author choked me up over a machine in such a short story is astounding. A great capstone to the Galaxy's Edge. It makes you think back through the losses throughout the books and the honor in one of the best characters.

Historia
Cedric the Brown is a wizard with a dark past. In an effort to make amends, he hides in plain sight among the residents of a space station he once nearly destroyed. Cut adrift by a bankrupt megacorp, the mobile mining station sets off to uncharted space in a desperate attempt to scrape by. What they stumbled onto would change the course of the galaxy. A planet. A lost alien race. A secret that will lead to all-out war. How will a station filled with scoundrels and crewed by former miners handle being the fulcrum of history?

I couldn't stick with it
Revisado: 07-10-20
I've enjoyed the other books in this series but I couldn't stick with this one. The plot and characters were just not interesting enough to maintain 25+hour story.

Historia
For Mark Caldwell, an unsatisfying life was about to take a turn both terrifying and exhilarating as his fate took an unimaginable turn. When Mark took his aisle seat aboard United flight 4382, he was ignorant of three facts. The fellow passenger in the window seat was named Joseph Colsco. Neither of them would ever set foot on Earth again. They both would be cast naked on an alien planet.

An unnecessary book
Revisado: 05-06-20
With a fan base eager for a return to Caedellium we instead received a "day in the life" book. By the end I had completely forgot about what went on with Mark and the Guilds and whatever othe characters and plot points that was at some point so important to the story.
This book could have been a half dozen excellent chapters in Joseph and Caedellium story rather than a low key around the world in 80 days book that other than the final third was utterly forgettable.

Historia
Nate Silver built an innovative system for predicting baseball performance, predicted the 2008 election within a hair’s breadth, and became a national sensation as a blogger - all by the time he was 30. He solidified his standing as the nation's foremost political forecaster with his near perfect prediction of the 2012 election. Silver is the founder and editor in chief of the website FiveThirtyEight. Drawing on his own groundbreaking work, Silver examines the world of prediction, investigating how we can distinguish a true signal from a universe of noisy data.

Wandering anecdotes
Revisado: 09-12-19
It was an entertaining enough book just for the interesting anecdotes but there was little attempt to tie the story back to what I assumed was the topic of the chapter. It was obviously outdated. I'm sure he never imagined how much would change in the next seven years. I would love to have heard the authors explanation of the last election and other recent events.

Should have been good but not my thing
Revisado: 09-30-18
Based on the outline and the glowing reviews I thought this book would be a real winner but was I ever wrong. I don't usually write reviews but I wanted to post a counter point to the five stars reviews to save some of you a credit if you are on the fence.
It's a painful listen, the story reads like it was written by a high school sophomore living out a juvenile fantasy. I guess some people like this style of writing, kind of a gear porn thing where equipment and tactics are described repeated and in great detail. I get it, it's a Jeep, move along. I'm sure there's a name for it but I see it most in amateur end of the world stuff.
The sad thing is the author got me on another book two years ago and it had the same issue. I guess it's a style that works for some, just now for me. Christian Rummel was great as always, just a good craftsman hampered by poor materials.

Fine story ruined by politics
Revisado: 08-18-16
What would have made A Learning Experience, Book 1 better?
Leave the great story concept and take out the ham-handed political posturing.
What could Christopher G. Nuttall have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
FAR less politics.
Which scene was your favorite?
Can't say, I stopped listening about two hours in.
What character would you cut from A Learning Experience, Book 1?
The alien, I seem to sympathize with it as a fellow prison to this story.
Any additional comments?
I read the reviews but didn't think the complaints over politics would bother ME but was I ever wrong. The writing wasn't juvenile like some odd little sci-fi books I've taken my chances on here but boy was it ham-handed!
A political point made once is great, a couple times is fine if done well but to be beaten about the neck and shoulders in every scene is just too much. I even agreed with some at first but 8 chapters in enough was enough, To the generic characters in the story, I get it you're angry "tough guys", that doesn't make you any smarter. Pulling the plug on this waste of a credit.
What a shame, this seems like a great story concept, and another fine read by one of my favorites, C Rummel. What a pro he must be to read this stuff with a straight face...

It's a Miss
Revisado: 01-04-09
After hearing the author many times on the TWIT podcast I thought this would make a good choice for a first investment book to read since college but unfortunately I was very mistaken. The author is also the narrator which proves time and again to be sure sign of problems. The reader is both dry and animated if that's even possible.
It's probably a problem of subject matter not being conducive to an audio book. The author has his own podcast; I'd recomend listening to a few of them before selecting the book. I'll listen to a few myself to hopefully get more into the spirit before pulling this one out of the library for another try.
One star because I couldn't make it past the first ten minutes.
