Historia
Today - as repeated attempts to “fix ourselves and our lives” fail - many of us face unprecedented fears about the future, struggle with unspeakable life tragedies, and sink under the belief that certain lives do not matter in our society. Others confront our epidemic of anxiety with fierce resistance, or “the fight to be right”, criticizing anyone and everyone just to end up stuck. In the face of such pervasive human suffering, New York Times best-selling author and legendary life coach Iyanla Vanzant challenges us: What if it’s not them - what if it’s you?

Great Therapy

This book helped me identify myself and check myself to begin my healing. It is probably best in text form but this was a great way to start my mornings.

Love hearing our stories
Revisado: 11-06-23
So often authors write about the black experience from slavery then to Civil rights era and up to street/urban novels. This book tells a simple murder mystery set in the 20’s Harlem. I even like that it hinted to black American going to Paris in the 20’s. Loved this story.

Boring
Revisado: 12-17-22
The story was not that interesting. The best part was jumping back and forth between the different family lineage. I downloaded it because I love the other books the narrator Bahni Turpin reads. But I was anxious to be done with the story.

Historia
Set in a middle-class neighborhood in Atlanta in the 1980s, Silver Sparrow revolves around James Witherspoon's two families - the public one and the secret one. When the daughters from each family meet and form a friendship, only one of them knows they are sisters. It is a relationship destined to explode when secrets are revealed and illusions shattered. As Jones explores the backstories of her rich yet flawed characters - the father, the two mothers, the grandmother, and the uncle - she also reveals the joy, as well as the destruction, they brought to one another's lives.

The narration wasn’t awful but the 2 narrators sounded as if hard candy or a retainer was in their mouths… story was just ok. I wasn’t really routing for any particular character.

Historia
Venus McGee, Draya Carter, and Jackie Benson are coworkers with a lot in common. They’re smart, independent, driven, and deserving of recognition - certainly more than they’ve been handed by a demoralizing boss. He’s the topic of conversation at their impromptu get-together after the company holiday party, where the threesome fantasizes about a life without him. There has to be an alternative to taking a deep breath and sucking it up. There is. It’s just not the one they expected. When morning comes, Venus, Draya, and Jackie are blindsided by murder....

Meh
Revisado: 03-01-22
I started so I had to finish. I always enjoy this Narrator so I figured I’d give it a try. The story isn’t bad, but it seemed a little unrealistic and more like a BET movie. I did enjoy listening to the friendship begin and evolve between the ladies.

It gets better closer to the end
Revisado: 11-29-21
It was just ok. I was t a fan of how the story was set up in the beginning, but loved the revealed information at the end. Only 1 secret felt like it was worth holding rather than spilling, but it was nice to hear a story about black people outside of the typical stories told.

Unexpectedly Good
Revisado: 10-04-21
The narration is perfect! Bahani Turpin always delivers. The story put an interesting twist on the traditional Cinderella story. It is dark and grim but well told. The author really paints a picture of the emotions of the characters and scenery. Good read/listen.

She discovers that she is part of a long line of witches that descended from West Africa. The source of their magic comes from the melanin only their kind possess in their skin, absorbed from the sun and radiating through their bodies.

Had potential
Revisado: 09-14-21
This story could have been so much better. It lacked realistic dialogue and the story was rushed. There was more time spent giving details of the sex scene than the other senses of the story. The relationships between characters were simply told and not developed. There was little imagery given except for when the characters looks were described. Not a fan

This story was well told and the narration was great. The descriptive wording helped the story to unfold at an appropriate pace. The story had several layers each more and more interesting. Highly recommend!
