Historia
"It began as a mistake." By middle age, Henry Chinaski has lost more than 12 years of his life to the U.S. Postal Service. In a world where his three true, bitter pleasures are women, booze, and racetrack betting, he somehow drags his hangover out of bed every dawn to lug waterlogged mailbags up mud-soaked mountains, outsmart vicious guard dogs, and pray to survive the day-to-day trials of sadistic bosses and certifiable coworkers.

What a MAN
Revisado: 03-04-25
This was my first Bukowski book. I’d heard so many talk about how he was their favorite author but didn’t realize until I’d started listening that they were all men. This is manly writing for men. However I do love drinking, gambling, avoiding work and sex so it was very relatable. Great ending!

Historia
As a young, queer couple who flip houses, Charlie and Eve can’t believe the killer deal they’ve just gotten on an old house in a picturesque neighborhood. As they’re working in the house one day, there’s a knock on the door. A man stands there with his family, claiming to have lived there years before and asking if it would be alright if he showed his kids around. People pleaser to a fault, Eve lets them in. As soon as the strangers enter their home, uncanny and inexplicable things start happening.

It was ok…appropriate for young readers!
Revisado: 12-13-24
Based on the hype, I was expecting something much scarier. It reminded me of a Get Out story. It leaves you asking a lot of ‘why didn’t she do this’ but I think that’s part of the mystery of if mental illness plays a role in that or if it’s something else. I liked the end though..definitely open to interpretation. The audiobook dictation of the comment thread was hilarious to listen to though. My son is 9 and loves creepy books and I’d let him read this. I think it’d make a good movie.

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

Absolutely unbelievable!
Revisado: 11-16-24
This story is incredible. I’m more interested in learning more about the Worlds Fair now. But the way this was put together and told was fascinating. I especially enjoyed listening to the authors process at the end how he did his own investigation and did not use the internet once. What an absolute experience the whole process was!

Very Murakami
Revisado: 09-11-24
This was a tough one for me to follow…I love Murakami’s writing style though. It was good but wasn’t my favorite.
