A confused plot with questionable decisions
Revisado: 02-17-21
The plot of this book really made no sense to me. I feel like Fleming had a bunch of cool ideas but did not know the best way to string them together.
Also, worst Bond girl by far. His infatuation with her did not feel natural or earned

Historia
The Moonraker project has a millionaire backer, the war hero Sir Hugo Drax - a man who, it seems, cheats at cards. With a ballistic rocket at stake, Sir Hugo's exposure could threaten Britain's latest defense system, so James Bond is asked to investigate. Moving from London's most exclusive gambling club to a missile silo on the Channel coast, 007 and his Special Branch assistant, Gala Brand, discover there's more to Drax than meets the eye.

Historia
All good things must come to an end, Constant Listener, and not even Stephen King can write a story that goes on forever. The tale of Roland Deschain's relentless quest for the Dark Tower has, the author fears, sorely tried the patience of those who have followed it from its earliest chapters. But attend to it a while longer, if it pleases you, for this volume is the last, and often the last things are best.

Let down in the final moments
Revisado: 11-24-20
The series had plenty of ups and downs. The first book was weak, but it was followed by the best two of the series. The next two felt like filler to get to Song of Susannah where the plot actually progressed. All this book had to do was deliver some emotional payoff for everything, and it failed to do that.
I was fine with the outcome of the characters, but the final showdown lacked weight. I think that stems from the Crimson King really being a missed opportunity. Mordred would have made for a better final battle, as the King wasn't really a factor in the story at all. I like the idea of these two old souls fighting over nothing in the end. I just feel that it lacked the sumation the story needed.
In my opinion, the story could have actually done with one or two more books. A background of the Crimson King could have done so much for the ending. He was pretty much a Sauron-like villain, but I never really felt like he was a threat. His "army" was weird and spread out too far.
Put the ending assault of Wizard and Glass here, and I would be praising this series despite King's tendency to waste our time with worthless backstories for meaningless characters, but when the ending is a miss, it makes all those annoyances stand out that much more.

No filler, all plot
Revisado: 11-17-20
While in my opinion Wizard and Glass and Wolves of the Calla were filler, Song of Susannah comes in hot with action, intrigue, plot out the wazoo. I loved this concise set up for the final book. More of the story progresses in this book than the last two combined. and I love it for that. All the preparation is here now, and I could not be more hyped for the finale.
Now, let's see what this demon baby gets up to!

Historia
Roland Deschain and his ka-tet are bearing southeast through the forests of Mid-World, the almost timeless landscape that seems to stretch from the wreckage of civility that defined Roland's youth to the crimson chaos that seems the future's only promise. Followers of Stephen King's epic series know Roland well, or as well as this enigmatic hero can be known. They also know the companions who have been drawn to his quest for the Dark Tower: Eddie Dean and his wife, Susannah; Jake Chambers; and Oy.

Another lengthy tale questionable importance
Revisado: 11-10-20
Even more so than Wizard and Glass, the story strikes me as meaningless. By the end, we are just left with a new member of the group and the set up for book 6. The journey was ultimately pointless for a chapter of action against poorly set up villains that were just "one and done."
The narrative hook of the tower seems completely forgotten at the point.

Historia
In this fourth volume, Roland, Eddie, Susannah, and Jake survive Blaine the Mono's final crash, only to find themselves stranded in an alternate version of Topeka, Kansas, one that has been ravaged by the superflu virus. While following the deserted I-70 toward a distant glass palace, Roland recounts a story about a seaside town called Hambry, where he fell in love with a girl named Susan Delgado, and where he and his old tet-mates Alain and Cuthbert battled the forces of John Farson.

A long slog to an excellent ending
Revisado: 10-28-20
Cringey teen romance becomes of the best action and story telling of the series so far. Truly the book would have been better had he cut out 10hrs of kissing and swooning.
I loved the last 4 to 5 hours, and I am only slightly ashamed to say that I was happy with the outcome of Roland's love interest.
Thank the lord the flashback is over. It felt wholly unnecessary just to set up the Wizard's Rainbow

Not my favorite story
Revisado: 10-21-20
In my quest to listen to every King book, Salem's Lot falls just below the greats of The Shining, Pet Sematary, It, and the Dark Tower series. I loved the town and the characters but felt the villains to be a little flat and the ending to be a little too quick.
King's books either soar or fall based on their endings and monsters, and this one just couldn't quite keep up as it went along.
Still a fantastic book though!

Amazing collection of short stories
Revisado: 02-07-20
I bought this solely on the name and was pleasantly surprised with how the book unfolded as a whole. When I realized it was a collection of short stories, I was surprised and eventually blown away with just how interesting and different each one was.
My only gripe is that the beginning and ending are a little weak, but most everything in between was fantastic!

Weirdly enjoyable
Revisado: 01-27-20
I got this on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. Brom certainly had a different views on religion from me, but it never detracted from the world he had created. My issue was more that the stakes for Chet seemed a little weak and thrown together and the arena arc seemed like filler.
All in all, it was a very different story which felt like a telling of greek mythology mixed with Django Unchained. Certainly interesting
