Historia
Forensic anthropologist Christine Prusik has a knack for solving the most unusual cases—and for bending the rules in the process. When the bodies of young women start appearing in the caves of Indiana and Illinois, Christine immediately jumps into action. But her Chicago field office is undergoing a reorganization, and the boys’ club at the top seem more interested in getting all the paperwork in order than solving the murders.

Fabulous sequel
Revisado: 08-21-23
Love that there’s a second book for this author! It’s a great follow up to Special Agent Christine and to the story. I sure hope there’ll be a third!! The unusual way the killer kills their victims was well researched, I know this because I listened to a very thorough NPR segment on a very similar creature. Was really gripping to find out who the killer was as there were several characters that “could have done it.”

Historia
As the chief forensic anthropologist for the FBI’s Chicago field office, Christine Prusik has worked her fair share of bizarre cases. Yet this one trumps them all: a serial killer is strangling young women and dumping their bodies in the steep, forested ravines of southern Indiana. With each victim, the killer leaves a calling card: a stone figurine carved like the spirit stones found among the native tribes of Papua New Guinea—the same tribes Prusik worked with a decade earlier while doing field research.

Yessss super good
Revisado: 03-05-23
So, I found this book on TikTok after the author’s daughter posted how her dad had written this book and it had never sold many copies. She went viral and the book became part of the top 10 best sellers. She showed her dad the video she made and people’s responses and he was so moved. I figured “what the heck, if it’s bad I’ll return it.”
OMG YALL!! It’s SOOOO good. Wish there was a sequel. Maybe there will be 🤷🏻♀️. Anyway, the characters are so well developed, the story line is well thought out, and the spiderweb of clues amazing!! I literally yelled out loud when it got to a creepy part. Caution: the author is amazing at descriptive language and there are some scenes with guts so tread w caution if you’re squeamish.

Really enjoyed the actors’ reading. Voices were pleasant and emotive. The story was interesting but towards the end it became a little predictable.

I loved the narrator(s). The whole story was great - including the (few) predictable parts. I loved that it spanned several decades and though everyone seems to get a happy ending it’s relatable and real not campy.

Uncomfortable but worth it
Revisado: 01-24-22
I was so uncomfortable listening to some of these chapters but I’m so glad I preserved to hear the ending. I think it’s uncomfortable because in 2016, when this book was written, things weren’t as “hot” and “testy” as in 2022. Overall great story, awesome readers, and engaging.

For decades, we’ve been told that love just magically happens when we least expect it. “How’s love going to happen for you if you’re just sitting on the couch watching Netflix?” Crista Beck asks. “Let’s be honest, love is not happening for you because you believe the societal fantasies about dating and relationships.” Beck doesn’t sugarcoat the reasons why we are still single. She tells it like it is - a strong dose of raw and honest truth that is sorely lacking today.

Realistic and optimistic dating advice for the modern woman

I thoroughly enjoyed the audio version of the book and extra bonus points for supporting a self-published female author.
It’s a super easy listen filled with so many good tips. I love that it’s not a book filled with unattainable should/shouldn’t tips. I enjoyed how Crista took realistic scenarios from Hollywood/Disney and shows the reader how it’s affecting their point of view. She does not shy away from going after things like weight, “being busy,” sticking around to be with someone, etc. I have recommended this to a few single friends as part of their “personal growth” path.

I liked the mentions of an older Mexico and surrounding communities - I’m from Mexico City and love hearing about “how it was.” They mention Desierto de Los Leones and that is where my childhood home was. The story itself is good, wish there was more development of the background of some of the characters, but overall it was a pleasant and entertaining book.

Like 007 but BETTER
Revisado: 12-02-20
My spouse and I listened to this book after my FIL recommended it. He has read the book 2xs and listened to this audio book at least once. From a man who is so picky about tv shows and books that was a high recommendation. We listened to it on a road trip from central Texas to north-central PA.
The story is captivating and the agent is like James Bond without the cocky attitude that can get old. It’s like a nerdy, confident, 007.

Interesting listen to pass the time
Revisado: 08-20-18
I didn't love this book but would recommend it to anyone who is commuting a long distance or is doing an activity where you need to pass the time.
The story is well developed but there was part of it that just didn't fit. There's a build up to the story but overall fell flat.
