A fascinating bit of history largely unknown in the US. Ultimately the events described have connections to the Iran-Iraq War, the Persian Gulf War, 9/11 and all its aftermath. Wonderful characters. A grim and tense story, yet filled with humor, as well.
I usually avoid books read by the author. I prefer a professional reader. Ben MacIntyre reads his own work and is excellent.

Donna Tarrt's narration is outstanding. Her essay at the conclusion was a wonderful surprise to me. The novel is much richer than even the 2010 Coen Brothers movie. A movie I thoroughly enjoyed.
I was inspired to re-read True Grit after recently reading Portis's Dog of the South for the first time. Another first rate novel by Portis.

A book that changed my perspective on the years in question. Recommended by a friend recently, not sure how I had missed it. Well narrated by Cosham. I also bought a hard copy of the book to reread sections and for future reference.
I can recommend this book strongly. Parts are hard to read, particularly the cannibalism. But Snyder's writing is clear and his research is important.

I have read Chernow's works on Hamilton and Grant and am a great admirer. This book may well be his most important due to his subject. I come away with an even greater appreciation of George Washington. His sense of duty to his country shines through. I am a history teacher and so Chernow's book has practical application.
Scott Brick is a gifted narrator. I only repeat what so many other listeners have said. I often pick a book because Mr. Brick is the narrator..

Jefferson Mays' reading was outstanding. I will look for other narrations of his. I had read other books by Kanon. Istanbul Passage was consistent with his other intelligent thrillers.

As a history teacher I am aware that probably no American President has had their reputation raised over the last half century like Grant. Chernow's book is a masterwork. He covers the less known events of Reconstruction with the thoroughness of the Civil War. The prose flows. The Audible production is first rate. The narration by Bramhall is outstanding. Highly recommended.

I loved the book, a tour de force. I read at times but mostly I listened. I write this review to compliment the narrator. It's a long book, and he never wavered. I have listened to hundreds of books over 30 years. Pittu's narration was energetic and intelligent. It is among the best I have ever experienced.

I enjoyed the book. It was well researched, based on many interviews with key players and others involved. Enjoyable for any fan that appreciates baseball in the 1970's and 1980's.
The narrator was good, enthusiastic and appropriate for this book. I appreciated the description of photos and the reading of captions. A minor complaint were the mispronunciation of some of the many names in the book.

Written by a remarkable reporter who loves college basketball for others who love the game. The scores of the game are forgettable, the stories Feinstein tells will stay with me. Last season ended abruptly, this book made up for it. A little.

This book is fantastic, written with depth, full of surprises and the thought provoking insights readers of Theroux expect. A departure for Theroux, he takes several trips south, sometimes reconnecting with people and places he visited on earlier trips. This allows him to let many of the people he meets the time and space to tell their own stories. The greatest change is that in this book he is focusing on his home country.
For readers not familiar with Theroux this would be a great place to start. Deep South is a fresh and sympathetic take on a region often written about. I have read nearly all of Paul Theroux's travel writing, having just finished and thoroughly enjoying his most recent book On the Plain of Snakes. I had missed this book when it was first published a few years ago.
The narration by John McDonough is also first rate. I will look for other books read by him.
