Good story - wish it had new narrator
Revisado: 12-26-22
Love the books - not the narrator. I’m confused on the choice of narrator. For a YA series, why a narrator with (I truly apologize to the narrator for saying this but) an “older” sounding voice. The narrators voice sounds like a middle aged woman, but the main character is supposed to be a high school senior. I’m struggling to understand the reasoning behind that choice. Otherwise a good book. I loved the first book. This was good but not as good. I’ll still read the series though.

Really enjoyed this short story! I’d love to hear more by this author. The “Limby” puppet voice is a little off putting but I think it’s meant to be that way. Loved the story as a whole, very interesting. Would love more from this author and a sequel!

Revisado: 09-27-22
Loved this book! Wish there was slightly more closure with the ending that was the only part I would change but otherwise the book was fantastic. Can’t wait for more from this author in the future.

Great story - narration doesn’t fit
Revisado: 09-22-21
Loved the story but I agree with other reviews that the narrator is not the right narrator for this story. Her voice is too immature sounding for the topics discussed. The book would be much better with an older sounding narrator.

Very different from the 1st book
Revisado: 08-29-21
I was so excited for this book after finishing “Raybearer”. Sadly this book was very different. The narrator is fantastic just as she was in the first book. The story itself had some big holes and focused on some non-essential parts and glosses over areas that you’d think would have been focused on. I’m curious to see if there’s another book after this one, as we get no major conclusion. I won’t spoil it but this book ends leaving a lot of questions unanswered. If you enjoyed “Raybearer” give this a try and see what you think of the conclusion yourself. Maybe others will be more satisfied with this story than I was. I felt it focused wayyyy to much on death whereas the first book was interesting and had a love plot playing amongst it. Sanjeet is barely in this story at all which was disappointing. Personally I felt there was a lot lacking from this book and it seems like the author felt they needed to quickly write a sequel to the first instead of really thinking the plot out ahead of time. Disappointed how this turned out I’m sorry to say.

Great story - narrator takes a while to get used to
Revisado: 07-02-21
I absolutely love the book and story line itself - but I much prefer the narrator used in Weir’s The Martian to this narrator. One of the things I love most about Weir’s books are the subtle humor and some of that was lost with this narrator. Just to be clear the story itself is fantastic, I just wasn’t a huge fan of the narrator. It takes some getting used to to listen to this narrator in my opinion. I wish the narrator hadn’t been so flatline in his narration at times in the book.

Twisting story line - iffy narration
Revisado: 01-17-21
This is the second Lisa black book I’ve read (and the second in this series). I’ve really enjoyed both. I read the first book and then listened to the second. I have to say I prefer the text version only due to the narration. Given that the story takes place in Ohio I was confused by the narrators choice of voicing several characters like old timey gangsters. This didn’t fit the story line and made it less believable because of it. I’ll definitely read the next book in text form if the narrator is the same. I’m sure she’s a good narrator just doesn’t fit with this type of book in my opinion.
