Historia
Maddie Sykes is a burgeoning seamstress who’s just arrived in Bright Leaf, North Carolina—the tobacco capital of the South—where her aunt has a thriving sewing business. After years of war rations and shortages, Bright Leaf is a prosperous wonderland in full technicolor bloom, and Maddie is dazzled by the bustle of the crisply uniformed female factory workers, the palatial homes, and, most of all, her aunt’s glossiest clientele: the wives of the powerful tobacco executives.

Addictive
Revisado: 10-18-22
Couldn’t put it down. I was totally pulled into the history, the deceit and the danger that tobacco caused its customers. Adele Moyers recreated the realistic dilemma that the families and workers who relied on tobacco for their livelihood were challenged with.

Powerful, worth a “listen”
Revisado: 03-10-19
A compelling story of a daughter’s devotion to her father. Some stories should be listened too. The narrator was amazing. Elizabeth Garber weaves the details of her father’s genius as an architect and his abusive personality from her childhood and into adulthood. As the eldest in a large family you learn that you had different parents then your siblings. Family dynamics are revealed and details of architecture are explained. The last chapter leads you back to understand the title.
