profound and thought provoking
Revisado: 05-03-24
I really liked the first book, Journeys Out Of The Body, this book is a great follow up and further exploration into the greater beyonds. I came across Monroe's books after a friend brought up his work in the Gateway Project, in response to some paranormal events I was experiencing. Robert Monroe's work has been very insightful to me and has helped me understand some aspects of the larger workings of the holistic universe. Though there is still so much to understand. This book is for those, and it's predecessor, is for those who are willing to challenge their own beliefs and perceptions, for those who are willing to open their minds to larger possibilities than dominant cultures define.

Historia
Dunbar-Ortiz adroitly challenges the founding myth of the United States and shows how policy against the Indigenous peoples was colonialist and designed to seize the territories of the original inhabitants, displacing or eliminating them. And as Dunbar-Ortiz reveals, this policy was praised in popular culture, through writers like James Fenimore Cooper and Walt Whitman, and in the highest offices of government and the military.

What is autism: a lifelong disability or a naturally occurring form of cognitive difference akin to certain forms of genius? In truth, it is both of these things and more - and the future of our society depends on our understanding it. Wired reporter Steve Silberman unearths the secret history of autism, long suppressed by the same clinicians who became famous for discovering it, and finds surprising answers to the crucial question of why the number of diagnoses has soared in recent years.

Revisado: 05-13-21
the history of the autistic diagnosis, from the perspective of parents and practitioners more than from the autistic community. I appreciate the in depth look at Aspergers as I often see his name and syndrome compared to a slur within the community (I'm autistic) and I felt like there isn't enough understanding of the historical context. this book provides that. hard to read at times, because eugenics. will have to look into books written by autists like Temple Grandin for a more personal look.

Corporations are broken, reflecting no purpose deeper than profit. But the tools we are relying on to fix them - corporate social responsibility, divestment, impact investing, and government control - risk making our problems worse. With lively storytelling and careful analysis, O’Leary and Valdmanis cut through the tired dogma of current economic thinking to reveal a hopeful truth: If we can make our corporations accountable to a deeper purpose, we can make capitalism both prosperous and good.
