In Ilin Illan, Wirr fights to maintain a precarious alliance between Andarra's factions of power. With dark forces closing in on the capital, if he cannot succeed, the war is lost. I listened to all three books, but it was work
Revisado: 04-17-25
I "read" a couple hundred books per year. I never really connected with the characters. These books are incredibly serious and detailed. You really have to pay attention ALL of the time. I bought these books on sale after reading the rave reviews on Audible. But I completely don't get it and will take future reviews as not very accurate. Perhaps I should have read these as paper books, you have to pay attention to a paper book. Kudos to the author for undertaking such an endeavor to write this trilogy. It was extremely well performed as well. Voice actors continue to excel in bringing books alive.

Historia
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

I could not become interested in this book
Revisado: 01-20-25
This is a detailed story with almost no plot. Just detail followed by detail with no plot. I truly do not understand the other reviews, which indicate other readers loved the book. You cannot trust reviews. I read about 175 books per year and this series definitely isn't for me. Just boring and no plot. I really wanted to enjoy the book.

Mostly blow by blow fighting
Revisado: 09-26-24
I enjoyed the other series by this author. But this book didn't appeal to me. The main character is self-doubting and whiny. I don't find that combination entertaining. About 75%+ of this book is detailed fighting, not plot.

Historia
Logen Ninefingers, infamous barbarian, has finally run out of luck. Caught in one feud too many, he's on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian - leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies. Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen North they fight by altogether bloodier rules.

Simply an incredibly boring book
Revisado: 02-02-24
I tried to like this book but absolutely nothing happened. I could not get interested in the characters. Possibly, if you’re an old man who likes unnecessary violence and torture you might like this book. What really makes me disappointed is that before I purchased the book I was shown glowing reviews praising the book to the skies. When I checked the reviews again post-purchase I saw others feel the same way about it. Don’t believe everything you read. The performance of the book was fine. The problem is the lack of plot.

okay but not great
Revisado: 05-03-23
The other reviews were pretty good for this book. I read a lot of this genre and I thought this book was just okay. the narrator emphasizes words oddly to my ear. I don't think the narrator reads ahead so has no idea what's coming next or when to emphasize actual important events in the book.

simply not enough plot and way too much whining from the MC. "I had to kill so many people and now I'm a bad person, boo hoo." More plot please, less complaining and whinging.

Jason arrives at a kingdom in peril and he's surprised to discover that it's not his job to save it. With the authorities fulfilling their responsibilities (for once), he looks forward to some quiet time to rest and recuperate. The locals might not find ceaseless monster onslaughts and an interdimensional invasion relaxing, but Jason has had a rough few years. He's doing his best to let go of his anger. While his team is caught up in duty, Jason has no shortage of people looking to interfere with his rest. Enemies—old and new—are circling, and even would-be allies are trouble.
