The stories are pretty uninspired and drag out too long to get where they should be. but that's not the worst, the narrators are easily the worst I've heard yet.
Richard sounds creepy, one girl sounds like she's faking bad porn, and the other could read her way out if a wet paper bag...literally. Save your money or credit and pass.

I love D&D, I've played since 1978. I love the concept of modern players getting sucked into that world and how they'd react. I love juvenile humor... this book has all that, but implements them poorly and repetitively. I hung in there through the 1st story, hoping it would get better...it does not. Try the sleeping Dragon by Joel Rosenberg instead...far superior.

2 totally different friends recommended this book. I would like to explain what it is what it's about but I think that does a disservice in a sense it's a treasure that you really should explore for yourself but I promise you won't be disappointed!

I enjoyed the authors book, On the bottom, so I tried his other books. I enjoy his writing, it is captivating and interesting. I listen to audiobooks on my daily commute, so a good book can make the ride better or worse. Ellsbergs books have me slowing down before I get home so I can hear just a little more before I am home. The narrarator whom I have associated with 2 of his books, Stephen Hoye, is good to listen to and brings the stories to life. it's harder listening to the other books available on Audible by Ellsberg because you want to hear it as Stephen Hoye. But still, the stories are very good in the end.. you will enjoy them.

I really enjoyed this story, being ex Navy and an ex Diver, I found the story riveting and exciting. A very tense story about a sub that is accidentally sunk and the men of iron will that struggled against all odds to raise her. I wish Audible had a greater selection of nautical stories like this.

overall it's not a bad tale, but also nothing particularly exciting ether. It's a shame the book Iron Coffins is not available, that is an exciting and captivating book.
one thing in particular that stands out is that the author constantly refers to the Captain as just " Teddy Woodward ". I'm not sure of English tradition, but having been in the US Navy, we would never have referred to our Captain the way, no matter how familiar he might have been. To me it suggests he's just a civilian casually ij charge of a submarine and just one of the guys...terribly disrespectful in my opinion.
I think I could have better spent my credit on another title. Red Star Rogue is a good pick. Pick this up on sale, not at full price and not for a valuable credit. Sorry.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. It is droning and terribly boring. I understand going back to the beginning, but so many unimportant details make it seem like filler to just make a big book. I am not quite 9 hours in and I just can't do it any longer. Atlas Shrugged started off slow, but this is just ridiculous. The narrator doesn't help either. I get that he is English, but his pronunciations get on your nerves after a while as well as his nasally tone. Please someone tell him that it is BAvaria, not BARvaria.

If you’ve listened to books by the authors before, how does this one compare?

I have not listened to this author before. But I have been on a WWII kick lately and so far have listened to some really good books, this one caused me to stop short. I normally go for unabridged as well, to get the full story; This one though I am not sure I could get through the Cliff's notes. There is a such thing as too much detail, to the point where the flow of the story seems mired in mud like Hitler's Tanks in Russian spring wound up...

How could the performance have been better?

More focus on story flow, focus more on where this man's life went and was going without so much detail...at some point it's almost like they tell you what handkerchief he picks out for his daily dress. Secondly, a different author could have helped. I can listen to english narrators, but this man was putting me to sleep except when he would pronounce certain words(like BARvaria) that would grate on the nerves.

Was Goebbels: A Biography worth the listening time?

No. I was hoping for an interesting account of the man, like the books on Hitler I have listened to. Hitler's furies, which focuses on how Nazi women behaved, some that were very far removed from the limelight was superior in content, narration and delivery beats Goebbels:a Biography, hands down.

Any additional comments?

Unless you have a paper to write on the man and need to know what suit colors he preferred, what diction he wrote in and how he flossed his teeth(sarcasm), I would avoid this book. Dreadfully boring...sorry.

Misquoting Jesus was one of my recomended downloads, but a reviewer suggested trying Jesus Interrupted first, so I did. I liked it so much and was so intrigued, I bought the book and downloaded his other works. Having grown up Protestant and Catholic, this really amazed me, more so when I opened the Bible to verify...WOW! I enjoyed his presentation of the material thoroughly and found it very hard to put down. I did not find it overly technical nor dry but quite fascinating. I agree whole heartedly that one should approach this open minded, considering what is said and what is written and referred to in the Bible. Man touched the Bible, therefore there will be mistakes. Professor shares his research yet suggests nothing but your deepest consideration of the facts. I have suggested it to my wife and children and many friends, I do to you as well!

Bag of Bones Audiolibro Por Stephen King arte de portada

One of my favorite King stories, but Narration...

Revisado: 04-23-08

Bag of Bones is one of my most favorite King books outside of the Dark Tower series(it like many others ties in to it). I think, however, the book would be much better served being read by someone other than Stephen King....as noted in many other reviews of his narration, his voice is hard to listen to, especially for an extended period of time. This was my 1st download & I was very excited...until I started listening. It actually got put on the back burner to finish all because of his voice, which is a shame because I love this story so much. In fact I have read the book at least 3 or 4 times. As a boook, I cant recommend enough, as an audiobook...listener beware, try it to see if you can endure his voice, which is monotone, pinchy & whiny(Sorry Stephen!)

After reading Lisey's story & NOT enjoying it, I was hesitant to buy this novel, I had the credit, so I opted to get the audio book. I wasnt sure the story was for me, but once I started listening....WOW! I was hooked. What is really neat about this book is that just when you think the story is about to wind down, it recoils on you & strikes! It is a bit sad how badly Stephen King beats up his characters...nobody gets out unscathed! John Slattery also enhanced the story with his reading, I thoroughly enjoyed his reading and the story...a must read for Stephen King fans. I wound up buying the book & am listening again a night & reading the book as well! Enjoy!
