Historia
When Danielle Boatman inherits Marlow House, she dreams of turning it into a seaside bed and breakfast. Since she's never visited the property, Danielle's not sure what awaits her in Oregon. She certainly doesn't expect to find one of the house's previous owners still in residence. After all, the man has been dead for almost 90 years - shouldn't he have moved on by now? Charming Walt Marlow convinces Danielle the only way he can move on is if she solves the mystery of his death.

A fun ghost mystery of sorts
Revisado: 11-02-24
I was not sure what to expect out of this, but it is sort of a Nancy Drew meets Supernatural, a mystery with ghosts as characters who are seeking answers and more. Fun characters, engaging narrative, and more to it than I expected. A fun discovery through the recommended reading option.

Historia
On Halloween night, eight trick-or-treaters gather at the haunted house by the edge of town, ready for adventure. But when something whisks their friend Pip away, only one man, the sinister Carapace Clavicle Moundshroud, can help the boys find him. "If you want to know what Halloween is, or if you simply want an eerie adventure, take this mystery history trip. You couldn't ask for better than master fantasizer Ray Bradbury," raves The Boston Globe.

A Halloween answer to Charles Dickens
Revisado: 09-14-24
Well performed, this is a Halloween tale akin in charm and effect to A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Full of history and charm, well worth one’s time.

Historia
New Orleans - the Big Easy, the birthplace of jazz, home of Cafe du Monde, and what some call the most haunted city in America. Beneath the indulgence and revelry of the Crescent City lies a long history of the dark and mysterious. From the famous "Queen of Voodoo," Marie Laveau, who is said to haunt the site of her grave, to the wicked LaLauries, whose true natures were hidden behind elegance and the trappings of high society, New Orleans is filled with spirits of all kinds. Some of the ghosts in these stories have sordid and scandalous histories, while others are friendly specters.

Engaging and Historical, A Compelling Listen
Revisado: 08-06-24
As Halloween starts in August - at the same time school starts - in our household, we were looking to strike the middle ground between academic and horror. This book ably delivers that. Well researched local history gives way to engaging ghost stories in this one. Glad to have had the chance to listen to it!

An Adventure Classic (With admittedly dated language)
Revisado: 12-03-23
Quatermain is a classic adventurer that inspired many others in modern popular culture and here, in this work is his best known adventure. The tale does smack of British imperialism, but given when it was written, that is predictable. Still, beyond those elements, the primordial ooze (so to speak) that would inspire folks to create adventurers who seek treasure in remote places is all here. Fans of films like Romancing the Stone, the Indiana Jones franchise, and such films will find much to like here.

Compelling and relevant
Revisado: 11-09-23
Ovenden provides a compelling and well researched overview of not only historical losses of knowledge, but why considering that loss in modern context is increasingly vital as we produce and distribute more and more knowledge and material than previous generations.
