Historia
One of seven children of a high-ranking government official, Loung Ung lived a privileged life in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh until the age of five. Then, in April 1975, Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge army stormed into the city, forcing Ung's family to flee and, eventually, to disperse. Loung was trained as a child soldier in a work camp for orphans, her siblings were sent to labor camps, and those who survived the horrors would not be reunited until the Khmer Rouge was destroyed.

Good for middle school students

I couldn’t get through the immature present tense writing and childlike reading of this book. Probably a good story. I will watch the movie.

The narrator was spell binding. I loved the reading of this book !

I loved the story. Not filled with lame cliches and expected scenarios. I loved being gently introduced to Bangladesh through the eyes of an average woman. Loved the ending so much!

Historia
The Appalachian Trail trail stretches from Georgia to Maine and covers some of the most breathtaking terrain in America - majestic mountains, silent forests, sparking lakes. If you’re going to take a hike, it’s probably the place to go. And Bill Bryson is surely the most entertaing guide you’ll find. He introduces us to the history and ecology of the trail and to some of the other hardy (or just foolhardy) folks he meets along the way - and a couple of bears. Already a classic, A Walk in the Woods will make you long for the great outdoors (or at least a comfortable chair to sit and read in).

Shallow retelling of a deeply disturbing time
Revisado: 12-27-23
Simply put I do not care for stories written in present tense. I felt like the book was written with a movie deal in mind instead of just writing a deeply moving account of the lives.

Great content/narration annoying
Revisado: 01-01-20
I hate to be critical but some voices are better in a kindergarten class and not for reading a book for adults. The narrator has an annoying voice and I decided to finish this wonderful book by reading the paper copy.

Not divided by chapters, hard to navigate
Revisado: 02-06-18
What disappointed you about The Indian in the Cupboard?
The story is great. But this recording is hard to navigate as there are only "sections". Not chapters. The book is written for youth, so its impossible for my 9 year old to find a chapter.
