Okay but not as good as wingfield who was the originator of the series.
Revisado: 09-22-18
This writer doesn’t have quite the wry humorous touch of the creator of the series.

Historia
Two on a Tower is Hardy's ninth novel and contains perhaps his most complete use of the theme of love across the class and age divide, to beautifully depict Hardy's reverence for science and astronomy. The unhappily married Lady Constantine breaks all the rules of social etiquette when she falls in love with young Swithin St. Cleeve, an astronomer and her social inferior. Despite their differences that society deems unacceptable, together, from an astronomical observatory, the lovers 'sweep the heavens'.

Good read
Revisado: 05-15-16
Who would have thought Hardy could write a funny farce like this. Of course being Hardy it is pretty bitter sweet. Plenty of good language delightfully rendered by Foyle himself.

Historia
When the corpse of the shady industrialist who owns the local football team is found both shot and stabbed with a Parmesan knife, Italian police inspector Aurelio Zen is called to Bologna to oversee the investigation. Recovering slowly from surgery and fleeing an equally painful crisis in his personal life, Zen is only too happy to take on what at first appears to be a routine and relatively undemanding assignment.

Great fun.

Loved the language. And the irony. The characters, and of course always Italy. None of my friends have tuned in though. They're all philistines who cherish the gossipy-toned pablum.

lots to be irritated about
Revisado: 03-19-14
What did you like best about The Prime Minister? What did you like least?
pretty improbable, what a wimp that heroine is. more importantly, it's anti-semitic and anti-hispanic enough to irritate--really anger--even a wasp.
Would you recommend The Prime Minister to your friends? Why or why not?
no
What does Timothy West bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
he really is good, i probably wouldn't have kept listening at all if it weren't for his smooth delivery and great characterization.
Do you think The Prime Minister needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
i would be happy to listen to mr. west's reading of another book

Historia
Dorothea Brooke is an ardent idealist who represses her vivacity and intelligence for the cold, theological pedant Casaubon. One man understands her true nature: the artist Will Ladislaw. But how can love triumph against her sense of duty and Casaubon’s mean spirit? Meanwhile, in the little world of Middlemarch, the broader world is mirrored: the world of politics, social change, and reforms, as well as betrayal, greed, blackmail, ambition, and disappointment.

long is not bad when well written and read
Revisado: 03-08-13
Would you listen to Middlemarch again? Why?
not right away,
What did you like best about this story?
everything
What does Juliet Stevenson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I wouldn't get through it without it's being read. Stevenson reads beautifully. Great handling of voices. Very clear, very alive.
Who was the most memorable character of Middlemarch and why?
Lots of memorable characters. Dorothea is of course the main character, but I found the doctor and his wife even more interesting and touching.
