Could not enjoy this book at all because of the readers performance .. he read fast and in a horse whisper that might have been appropriate for don parts . But he uses on tone and rythem throughout.. had to quit .

Christine is frank candid and lays bare everything..

This book documents and lays bare the unique story of her life as a dedicated performer and woman whose life and family intertwines with the bluntness of being coping with the pressures of a stage actress and performer while seeing her own brother succumb to the terrible epidemic of HIV Aides. I adored her before I really knew her and now am in awe of this woman I love. Dfz

Same ensemble of characters in fictional form

This novel wanders around to find its ground.. the characters are fictional but familiar indeed.. Walls wondered allowed if she could find a story that wasn’t based on her real family … so she just extended her family , tweaked the characters a little and gave them Emus.

I didn’t mind the story the girls were blessed with courage and the love of family that were there for them when the parents were absent .
I almost always prefer the author to read their own material… and I didn’t mind Janet Walks reading.. but if you hear a performance of an actor who puts on a performance .. like Meryl Streep.. I can listen to her many times over..

Just not into this guy

This author tries to over describe every moment easily can skip every other chapter and more and mercifully get to the predictable bloody end..
reader mispronounces many Spanish words and destroys the Catron county name as Hispanic which it’s not.. a famous American lawyer.. who has many dependents .. none of which use any form of a Hispanic pronunciation..
Can’t recommend any of Michaels books sorry.. even if they are set in my beloved New Mexico .
