Brilliant
Revisado: 03-29-15
It's like eating a delicious meal. You don't want it to end. You can get lost. I found myself continually referring to Wikipedia to keep track of who was related to who. Still it's well worth the time invested. A great listen. Roy Dotrice is masterful! The best performance by narrator I have ever heard. Can't wait for the next book.

Historia
Within seconds, normally rational, self-controlled people become frenzied killers. Christened "Haters" by the media, the attackers strike without warning, killing all who cross their path. People are afraid to go to work, afraid to leave their homes, afraid that at any moment their friends or family could turn on them. In the face of this mindless terror, Danny McCoyne must secure his family, seek shelter, and watch as the world falls apart. "Attack first, ask questions later" becomes the order of the day.

No Heros
Revisado: 03-22-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes but only a friend with a tast for lengthy backstory and non-traditional narrative
What about Gerard Doyle’s performance did you like?
Mr. Doyle's performance is simple, direct, and solid. He portrayal of the protagonist is pitch perfect. He renders a vivid portrayal of each character in the same fashion. Male, female, child, adult, working class British or politician, each character is spacific and fully realized.
Any additional comments?
This is not a book with Heros. There is no ex cop who holds a ragtag band of survivors together. No military man with quiet strength and combat expertise. No beautiful woman fighting Her way through a post Apocalyptic landscape. In fact the protagonist is not somone you like very much. You do however understand him. You empathize with him. That is the authors great accomplishment. The central crisis of this story unfolds in a believable fashion. The horrifying events of this story happen to ordinary people. this is a story about what happens to a society when we view our neighbors as

Historia
A prison doctor injects a condemned serial killer with a formula designed to keep his consciousness awake while his body rots in the grave. But all drugs have unforeseen side-effects. Before he can be buried, the killer wakes up. Hungry. Infected. Contagious. This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang… but a bite.

Not Maberry's best but damn good!!!!!
Revisado: 01-22-12
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Another great listen from Maberry!
What did you like best about this story?
Maberry gives us clearly defined character's, including the undead. We're also treated to a novel take on how a zombie apocalypse might start. The best part of this book is the fact that the characters simply can't believe it's all happening. The speed with which characters accept the horrifying given circumstances has always been a flaw in this genre. Here, tough as nails characters are driven to the edge of madness by the madness around them. They just can't believe what they're seeing. There's no frame of reference. The realistic way the characters respond to the stories crisis is the single best aspect of this audiobook.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
His reading was just vivid enough.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
It would need a great director and screenwriter. Maybe Breck Eisner, from the 2010 remake of the Crazies.

One of the best military themed Zombie novels. Truly scary battles, clearly drawn, well developed characters. Think I enjoyed this as much as Day by Day Armageddon. This novel was a little Darker. It also did a good job at deconstructing the concepts of "duty".

Great Listen
Revisado: 07-29-11
Really enjoyed this one. A harrowing story, with great character development. The narration is powerful, simple, direct. The brief flashbacks allow the listener to understand and care about the people. You understand their choices. The monsters are horrifying. A great balance between character and action. The military aspects ring true. In the zombie genre it's hard to convincingly relate the "what if" nature of a story. DiLouie nails it. Hope there is a sequel.
