Heartbreaker and Tearjerker
Revisado: 02-01-24
OMG. What an amazing book! I did not know about the history contained in this book. Not only did I have a story that took out my heart, stomped on it, put it back in, then ripped it out again 🤣🤣🤣 but I learned some real-life history in the process. I did have to ignore all the churchy prayer stuff. It became too much at times. Thank you!

Historia
It's true that Anna Trent is a supervisor in a chocolate factory...but that doesn't necessarily mean she knows how to make chocolate. After all, there is a world of difference between chalky, mass-produced English chocolate and the gourmet confections Anna's new boss creates. But with a bit of luck and a lot of patience, Anna might learn that the sweetest things in life are always worth working for.

Historia
We congratulate ourselves when we resist the donut in the office breakroom. We celebrate our restraint when we hold back from sending an email in anger. We feel virtuous when we wake up at dawn to get a jump on the day. We put others’ needs ahead of our own and believe this makes us exemplary. In On Our Best Behavior, journalist Elise Loehnen explains that these impulses—often lauded as unselfish, distinctly feminine instincts—are actually ingrained in us by a culture that reaps the benefits, via an extraordinarily effective collection of mores known as the Seven Deadly Sins.

Mixed Feelings
Revisado: 07-19-23
Whilst some of this was new to me, I found her to be writing more of an autobiography rather than how “the patriarchy has twisted Christianity.” The section about her brother in law seemed disjointed and out of place for the topic of the book. But I did finish it and have more authors and topics to move in to now.

Incredible Story
Revisado: 07-03-23
This was an incredible book. Hard to listen to at some times. But it’s a story that others should listen to. Especially those who have had things happened to them when they were children, and haven’t quite figured out how to deal with it in their adult life. Paris has triumphed above everything and soars like an eagle on the wind.

Historia
Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

Historia
The year was 1917. As a war raged across the world, young American women flocked to work, painting watches, clocks, and military dials with a special luminous substance made from radium. It was a fun job, lucrative and glamorous - the girls themselves shone brightly in the dark, covered head to toe in the dust from the paint. They were the radium girls. As the years passed, the women began to suffer from mysterious and crippling illnesses.

Horribly tragic, Wonderful journey
Revisado: 09-07-22
This is truly an amazing book. The author traveled to America to get what she needed to bring these women back to life. I felt their pain. My heart sunk each time it was revealed what the injuries were and how it affected each one differently. And all of my insides were enraged at the company who murdered these women and left so many of them to die without a second thought.
The narrator is not that great. I felt like a female version of Captain Kirk was reading to me. Very choppy and occasionally took me out of the story. But the content was worth more than a bad reading.
I would still recommend this book in any format. It will make you smile. It will engage you. It will break your heart. There were real people in our history who went through this. Let something like this never happen again.
