Love it even more with Jenny Agutter's narration. She truly brings this endearing story to life.

Content good; needs a different narrator

This book covers basic Christian teachings, nothing really in-depth — apropos for the author's gospel music audience demographics. Still, worth revisiting for most Christians. The narrator sounds like a teenager, however, which waters down the subject matter. A strong, more authoritative voice is needed to present these truths. This isn't a children's book or paperback romance novel. I would suggest reading the book vs. listening to the Audible version.

Mr. Green, please step down

Revisado: 12-22-23

Mr. Green was a friend of Ms. Beaton's, and tells us repeatedly in the forewords that he was crowned as Ms. Beaton's successor, when, sadly, Ms. Beaton passed away. It's not working out, and the editors must have fallen asleep with their red pencils clutched in their hands. The books have become increasingly badly written, bizarre story lines with rogue donkeys and strange Aussie animals popping up in the Cotswolds. Agatha and the usual band of characters have become unrecognizable; new characters, unbearable. (And can't Toni please be written out once and for all?) Dead on Target is no exception to the oddities, and were it not for Dame Penelope Keith's narration, I would've given up five-six books back.
It's time for Mr. Green to step down and for Minotaur to find a new, experienced writer to circle back to the REAL Agatha Raisin and ground the storylines and characters in what made this mystery series so popular in the first place. I would highly recommend the publisher court David Semple, the successful Brit scriptwriter who gave us the fabulous BBC Radio Agatha Raisin series (available on Audible featuring Dame Penelope) that is so well written, entertaining, and funny (liberties taken with the actual books, but so well done!) that I prefer listening to the glorious 9+ hour dramatizations over the post-Beaton books. It's my go-to when I get fed up by the weird "with R.W. Green" books.
Snakes and b@stards: It's time to resurrect the REAL Agatha Raisin!

Philip Franks IS Cedric "Charlie" Charlton!

How wonderful that Philip Franks — who played Charlie on the ITV ultimate version of "The Darling Buds of May" (also starring David Jason, Pam Ferris, and Catherine Zeta Jones) is reading the H. E. Bates' series of Larkin family books! His personal connection to the TV series and incredible skill in narration (PERFICK!) makes this audio book series (this is the first in the series) beyond special. So often book TV / film adaptations are sadly world's apart, but having first seen the TV series, I find these books almost identical in character descriptions, plots, scenes, etc., so kudos to the TV series producers/writers. So if you've already seen the original TV series, you'll not be disappointed in this series of books.
If you've never seen the TV series or are unfamiliar with the books, you will find respite in this world of a large, loving family and their often crazy adventures; a host of unique village neighbors; farm/country life; and the ambiance of 1950s Southeast England — Kent in particular — when rural England was still quite safe, unspoiled, and life was simple but never boring.

Genuine concern for this planet and animals

I've been a huge fan of Peter Egan, the actor, for decades; thus, I have also followed his animal welfare activism over the years as well. He travels the world ding great things for animals in the wild and companion pets. Because of the supposed source of COVID, this podcast is incredibly important, presented by two men who are serious and have the credentials to back up everything they're saying. If you care about this planet, your community, your family, your life, LISTEN to this podcast. LEARN from it. BE INSPIRED to make a change. TAKE ACTION to the best of your ability, in anyway you can. Start somewhere. Thank you dear Peter and Andrew for your efforts!

Just when you think you'll get an answer to a question posed, you get, "in this book, we'll discuss...." and on and on for CHAPTERS. "Where's the beef?" The book could be edited down into about three chapters and cover everything necessary. I didn't care for the authors' negating other people's NDE's or actual death experiences (i.e., Don Piper [though not directly named] who has an extremely believable account of Heaven in a book also published by Baker! What does this imprint stand for, anyway?) The narrator would sliiiide into words, bordering on sarcasm, and at times I felt he would start scatting jazz. Not a comfortable listen.

This is a presentation, not a book. Still, it needs a massive editing job. Way too repetitive. You've lost me, I'm afraid.

She sounded as if she was advertising detergent instead of recounting precious accounts of dying. I had to take down the speed a couple of notches she was so over-the-top. I couldn't listen all the way through so I hope to read the book in future. Why do publishers hire these people who sound as f they aren't paying attention to the content, have bad inflections? It seems the author is usually the best bet to read their own books 98% of the time.....

As a North Carolinian, I have considered Ron, Clint, and Rance Howard to be almost like family since "The Andy Griffith Show" days. Ron and I are the same age so that's been a long time. To have watched Ron work his way from a child actor to an Oscar-winning director has filled me with pride as a mere fan, along with him just being "an outstanding young man" as Andy Taylor would've expected from his only son (see how I omitted the "O" word, Ron?). I found every aspect of the Howard Family's lives interesting and heartfelt, never a drag or too maudlin. Clint's struggles with addiction had me hugging my iPad, wishing I could offer the same to Clint for making it through. Having worked in media most of my life myself, I loved Ron's descriptions of learning his craft on such incredible sets, especially his early directing pitfalls and triumphs. Pure gold. It was just enough for the layman to understand and satisfy those of us who have been a bit involved ourselves. I wanted to hear more, so I hope there will be The Boys II one day soon. When Ron spoke of his parents' allowing their children freedom to fly, and alluding to the "baby birds" Andy Griffith episode, I said out loud, "But don't the trees seem nice and full." What a full life those Howards have had. And there's more to come for Ron and Clint, absolutely....

I'm from Virginia and grew up with the dream that SOMEDAY I'd get my own Misty one magical July day.... I loved this book and got my own copy on a trip there as an adult. Better yet, is to have it read so beautifully by one of my favorite actors, and I cherish his memory in this audio book. You're never too old to listen to this lovely true story or share it with your children. It will inspire you to travel to that beautiful island and experience the pony run for yourself.
