Historia
Frankie Elkin is an average middle-aged woman, a recovering alcoholic with more regrets than belongings. But she spends her life doing what no one else will - searching for missing people the world has stopped looking for. When the police have given up, when the public no longer remembers, when the media has never paid attention, Frankie starts looking. A new case brings her to Mattapan, a Boston neighborhood with a rough reputation. She is searching for Angelique Badeau, a Haitian teenager who vanished from her high school months earlier.

Finally!!!
Revisado: 01-28-21
This was *so* good! I am often disappointed by this author because the plots are well conceived but there are procedural errors that I find frustrating (where’s the editor???).
The protagonist in this case isn’t law enforcement so she’s less constrained in that regard. The narrator was excellent. Highly recommend.

Historia
Christiana is the daughter of the biggest arms dealer on the West Coast, Angus Byrne. She's also the sole witness and number one suspect in the murder of her boyfriend, found dead in her Newport Beach boutique. Isaiah Quintabe is coerced into taking the case to prove her innocence. If he can't, Angus will harm the brilliant PI's new girlfriend, ending her career. The catch: Christiana has multiple personalities. Among them, a naïve, beautiful shopkeeper, an obnoxious drummer in a rock band, and a wanton seductress.

Where is Sullivan Jones???
Revisado: 05-20-20
Here’s the thing - by the fourth book in a series with the same narrator, the narrator and the character become so intertwined that any other voice makes you feel that the character is a stranger. Zeno Robinson isn’t bad, and I’ll look for something else he’s narrated to give him a fairer chance. The change in the voice made the book grate for me - couldn’t find my listening groove and so kept losing the details of the plot.
Regrettable switch.

Historia
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Catch a tiger by its toe. It's seared into Atlee Pine's memory: the kidnapper's chilling rhyme as he chose between six-year-old Atlee and her twin sister, Mercy. Mercy was taken. Atlee was spared. She never saw Mercy again. Three decades after that terrifying night, Atlee Pine works for the FBI. She's the lone agent assigned to the Shattered Rock, Arizona resident agency, which is responsible for protecting the Grand Canyon. So when one of the Grand Canyon's mules is found stabbed to death at the bottom of the canyon - and its rider missing - Pine is called in to investigate.

Poor Narration Choice
Revisado: 12-11-18
I never ever give negative reviews but in this case I think a heads up is in order. There are two narrators - Ms Pressley narrates female dialogue and all descriptive text, and Mr Brewer narrates male dialog. The result is disjointed and jarring. Either one of the narrators would have done a fine job on their own but the combination, especially with Ms Pressley narrating all the he saids and he replieds makes for an awkward listen. In addition, it sounds as if Me Brewer’s dialog was recorded separately and edited in - it’s slightly louder and he sounds more like he’s acting his dialog rather than narrating.
The book is great - read it rather than listen.

Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius". Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up.

Beyond creepy dystopia
Revisado: 05-03-15
Starts off vaguely reminiscent of Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go and then veers off in a completely different direction. Could not put it down. Beautifully read.

Historia
On October 14, 1943, 600 Jews imprisoned in Sobibor, a secret Nazi death camp in eastern Poland, revolted. They killed a dozen SS officers and guards, trampled the barbed wire fences, and raced across an open field filled with anti-tank mines. Against all odds, more than three hundred made it safely into the woods. Fifty of those men and women managed to survive the rest of the war. In this edition of Escape from Sobibor, fully updated in 2012, Richard Rashke tells their stories

A well-researched story of resistance
Revisado: 04-28-15
Everyone (one would hope) knows of Auschwitz and of the horrors inflicted there, largely because there were survivors to tell the story. Less is known of the death camps - Majdanek, Belzec and Sobibor. We need to know the stories of these camps, we need to know of the brave resistance efforts and we need to share these stories with our children.
