Would you try another book from Stephanie Laurens and/or Simon Prebble?

Honestly, I love Stephanie Laurens and all the Cynster novels and Simon Prebble so Yes I will read another of her books. On this one however I am quite disappointed. Not sure why but this one seems to be sex scene after sex scene every 5 minutes. Go for a walk and stop and have sex. Have sex in the middle of a party. I literallly listened for 50 minutes straight and the entire content was a sex scene. I am saying sex in this review as often as it happened in this book and I have two more hours to go :-( I find myself listening and saying enough already, lets get to the plot.

What does Simon Prebble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

LOVE Simon Prebble! One of my favorite narrators.

Could you see The Ideal Bride being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

AWFUL voices

What would have made Mastered by Love better?

Narrator!!!! Honestly I am only about an hour into this 15 hour novel and so disappointed. I do not think I can finish it due to the narration. The narrator himself has a nice voice...but the characters...UGH. Minerva (the heroine) is AWFUL. He makes her sound (very hard to explain) whiny, stupid, choppy, etc. It sounds like they are trying to portray her as one of the characters they want you to dislike. Even the hero sounds stupid at times. I love ALL of the Bastion novels and love love love Simon Prebble. I took a chance and bought this novel based on the reviews but I do not forsee "getting used to" Minervas voice. I can normally envision the heroine immediatly as such when Rosalyn Landor or Simon Prebble are the narrators....this one, i want to throw her out the window into the lake praying she shuts up. What a waste of money :-( And this novel above all else should be awesome as it is the finale to the Bastion novels....but I cannot listen anymore. Trust me, SAVE your MONEY and hope they record it later with a better narration. If you do not believe me go ahead and buy it and you get your first taste of Minerva at 25 minutes and you will agree...

What could Stephanie Laurens have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I dont know because I cannot finish it because of narrator.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Steven Crossley?

Simon Prebble or Rosalyn Landor or Susan Erickson (just about anyone)

not so good

I am only 3.5 hours in and finding it hard to keep turning it on. I do not care for the narrator, the accent she gives Gabriela is so distracting I cannot even describe. I hope it picks up the pace and gets better or I may not be able to finish.

I am a big fan of JL books and the Mallory series but this one was bad. Amy is beyond annoying, she is like a modern day stalker. It is beyond unrealistic to be rejected so many times and yet remain so confident you are going to get your way. That plus the entire book hyped up all of the other characters more than the two stars of this one.

It is not the absolute worst read but it was close

Narration terrible

I am on part two, a total of about 7 or so hours in and the female character starts and continues to sound like some insipid weak character who has a high squeeky voice with odd pauses in her sentences like "I (pause) dont (pause) know (pause) what (pause) you are (pause) talking (pause) about." You get the point. The irony is this woman is suppose to be so strong and tough and has been through so much and to make her sound like a little meak thing makes it just awful. The male is OK but could be better. I have heard great narration before and this is not one.

The storyline I like, but it is really hard to get through and at this point i am only finishing it to not feel like i totally wasted my money

This audiobook could have been Really Good with a different narrator.

Narration ruins this book

It is hard to say if I would have enjoyed this book with a different narrator. This guy is absolutey terrible. His female voice for Adrienne is AWFUL. It is whiny and definately does not depict the supposed "strong woman of the 20th centurye". I am through part 1 and suffering the rest. I had high hopes for this series and I only hope the next books narrator does a much better job.

It was alright

I love Stephanie Laurens and her Bastion Club novels but this one just dragged on i thought. did not hold my interest at times i just turned it off and came back to it later. no real "romance" and to me the plot was so-so. just not my cup of tea on this one

I am only 1/3 of the way through and it really is torture to finish it. I myself also loved A Lady at Last but this one is horrible. Ariela professes her love to Emilian after what, literally one day? and in that day he treats her with nothing but disrespect and hatred. The first 4 hours are filled with nothing but Emilian's revengeful nature and spouting of his hatred for the English. If I hear the term Gaugo (sp) one more time i think i will puke. I agree with the other reviewer, the heroin in this one is no heroin but a week, spineless ninny and it is unbelievable she just accepts Emilians cruelty and says "oh but i love you". Granted as i said I am only about 5 hours into it and dreading the remaining (but i refuse to waste my money so i am really hoping it gets better). I really to recommend you save your money and your credit, this one is terrible and i usually have a pretty good tolerance for even the mediocre. Oh and i find the narrator HORRIBLE and nasaly sounding in most of the characters.

Terrible Narration and Storyline

The heroin in this story sounds terrible, i cannot even describe it but the narrators portrayal ruined this book even more. the story itself was pretty empty and not much to it. but it may not have been as sufferable if better narrator..i will never buy another book by this narrator.

Loved It

Ditto. Loved the story (laugh out loud) and characters and narration. I loved this narrator in Aint She Sweet. I however was slightly disappointed in Lady Emmas voice. she sounded stuffy and old..but you got used to it so was not too bad.
