Historia
1816 was a remarkable year - mostly for the fact that there was no summer. As a result of a volcanic eruption at Mount Tambora in Indonesia, weather patterns were disrupted worldwide for months, allowing for excessive rain, frost, and snowfall through much of the Northeastern US and Europe in the summer of 1816.

A 21st Century view of a Mysterious Event
Revisado: 09-12-23
The level of detail and scope of this book was amazing, the author(s) poured over documents that spanned all the major countries of the world and delved deep into them to provide an extremely accurate view into the effects of something we squabble over today. The Climate and it's changes.

I've found that whenever a long running pulp type series is brought to a close it's usually done clumsily or leaves you feeling unsatisfied. This book was definitely a friggin thrill ride straight to the end. Threads woven throughout novel after novel were expertly tied at this final climax. Well worth the wait and the ride. Especially if you've served. This guy gets it. One word of criticism would simply be an extra heavy dose of Deus ex Machina, but still it doesn't break the story. My favorite zombie series too date.

Can good triumph over evil? Will this wickedness spread? Who will stand against the malevolence? Is all hope lost? It's the end of the world as we know it.

First books are fun
Revisado: 04-29-23
I ended up dropping this purely because the plot went completely stagnant. Nothing but repeated and grotesque genital mutilation and sickening accounts of the most inhumane acts the author could come up with. page after page after page. And with little to no reason other than to gross the reader out. I can appreciate splatter Gore books but this was just too much and had no point to it. Read the first 4 books. They're fun. But if you're looking for a satisfying ending, use you're imagination because it's not here.

Steve had experience when it came to waking up with hangovers. Being attacked by kobolds? Not so much. After rousing in the middle of a monster-filled forest, he was sure his life was over. That was until he was saved by a fire-wielding angel who was anything but human. Now Steve finds himself a temporary guest on a small run-down farm filled with monster girls who need his help. None more so than the canine beauty responsible for saving his skin.

If you pick this book up expecting the next Game of Thrones then you need a revision on the English Language. But what I can say is I really enjoyed this book. It was a well written, fun, story that has some extremely enjoyable bedroom scenes. It doesn't rush into the harem aspect and neither does it take itself too seriously. I was pleasantly surprised and never found myself rolling my eyes at how unbelievable or ridiculous it was. For the subject matter, it's pretty believable and delivers in spades. Or produce.

Decent Wrap Up
Revisado: 08-03-22
While I thoroughly enjoyed the H.P Lovecraft tie in to the world, I felt this particular book was just lackluster in general. It has most of the common thematic elements that I so enjoyed in the first two books, the blood and gore, the overwhelming violence and slaughter. The weirdness. But, it simply didn't have any of the desperation or struggle to survive. The impact the first books had. More time was spent trying to get the uninitiated readers to understand just wtf Lovecraft elements were all about, than actual plot progression. This led to an extremely rushed and unsatisfactory ending. Which was far too blase for what had been building througout the series. If you've made it this far in the series then by all means give it a go. Just don't expect too much.

Best Nevill Book
Revisado: 07-31-22
Adam Nevill has some amazing talent as a horror writer. he takes the reader through an absolute slog of terror and gore. And just when you think there's nowhere for the story to go, another dimension snatches the character up and off you go even further down the rabbit hole until reality is just a word and safety a foreign concept. I never believed I'd be a horror fan, but Nevill's books converted me. If you want a good book that will keep you turning page after page until you feel as exhausted and defeated by the sheer terror of what lurks in the dark as those in the story are, pick up one of his books. And brace yourself. It's going to get weird.

Stoner knew. The fiery object hurtling toward the Earth was an alien spacecraft. But the world might never know. He was trapped in an iron cordon of secrecy, for the discovery had shattered the world power balance, setting off a brutal struggle for supremacy that raged from the sacred halls of the Vatican to the corridors of the Kremlin and the Pentagon. The forces of fear and treachery would use any weapon at their command, from mind war to sabotage, to keep the world in darkness.

Amazing Sci Fi at it's absolute best
Revisado: 07-29-22
This is the 2nd Ben Bova book I've read and I have to question why it took so long for me to read his work. It's brilliant and thought provoking. Characters are as deep and real as any in life and after reading a lot of garbage, finding someone who can do that well is what separates the pulp fiction into the real soul searching stories we remember for life. It's no action packed roller coaster, but nonetheless gripping and so very human in it's telling.

Historia
In the high mountains of Tibet, rumors are spreading. People whisper of an outbreak, of thousands of dead, of bodies pushed into mass graves. It is some strange new disease...a disease, they say, that can kill in minutes. The Chinese government says the rumors aren't true, but no one is allowed in or out of Tibet. At the Pentagon, admiral James Curtiss learns that satellite images prove that a massive genocide is underway. This is no disease. It's a weapons test. Chinese scientists have developed a way to kill based on a person's genetic traits.

Michael Crighton would've been proud
Revisado: 07-23-22
I don't know what I was expecting when I started this book, but it wasn't what I got. This was a very well written, gradually building and intensely fascinating arms race drama. Each of the characters were introduced and beautifully developed within the story. I laughed with them, cried with them, and empathized. I honestly didn't know how it was going to turn out and with some imaginitive twists along the way I found I really enjoyed it. When finished, I couldn't help but think that the way the author introduced the science involved and them built upon it, was as skillfully done as the late great Michael Crighton. An incredible amount of research and clear thought was placed into the fictional aspect of the science aspect. As well as the cultural ones. I'm unfamiliar with the author but I truly hope he puts as much passion in his future novels as he did here with this one. This is not a post apocalyptic book, or even a end of the world story. But it's a hell of a read and I highly recommend it.

From the mind of the man Stephen King calls "a master of the macabre", comes a brilliant new collection of no-punches-pulled horror stories, some never-before-collected and many originals that have never been published anywhere before. Bentley Little can take the innocuous, twist it around, and write a story that will change your way of thinking. Walking Alone: Short Stories is a shining example of his talent to scare you, creep you out, and make you shudder.

Finally actual CREEPY stories!
Revisado: 07-21-22
All of these stories are well written and wonderfully performed. They have varying degrees of creepiness and land squarely into the genre of the Wyrde and Unnatural horror rather than the ultra gorey blood soaked type with zero humor. Very enjoyable and worth a listen.
