Historia
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Underwhelming and non-novel
Revisado: 05-11-24
It reads like a sophomoric college thesis combined with some rather basic, dull storytelling in order to fill it out into a full-length novel. Narration is equally dull. My real issue overall though is that the author brought nothing new to the table in terms of speculative nuclear war analysis. Do not recommend.

Historia
After Mafia pressure destroyed his family, ace sniper Mack Bolan left the jungles of Southeast Asia to declare a new war on the home front. A one-man army, he wiped out the mob in his Massachusetts hometown. That was just the beginning. Hunted by the police, tracked by the FBI, and carrying a price on his head, Bolan is on the move. After crossing paths with an old war buddy in Los Angeles, the Executioner devises a plan. He's going to round up the best sharpshooters, scouts, demo experts, and hardcore killers and clean up the West Coast.

Pleasantly Surprised
Revisado: 01-23-21
I was skeptical when I downloaded this, but was very pleasantly surprised at the quality. The sex and violence reads like an old grind-house movie (in a good way). It’s not a cerebral read but it’s gritty entertainment and written better than most military fiction. The author doesn’t waste your time (like so many modern military fiction writers do) by name
dropping make and models of every little piece of equipment. Also, you can clearly see it was source material for THE PUNISHER which in my opinion was likely inspired by the Bolan Character. I intend to follow this series through, has all the vigilante satisfaction of a good Charles Bronson film.

Disappointing
Revisado: 11-20-19
I honestly struggled to get through this book. The characters are so overly cliche that they border on the line of caricature, the dialogue and streams of thought are extremely juvenile in nature, and elements of the story common to the “Aliens” universe are poorly understood which makes the story feel very inauthentic. Overall it would probably qualify as decent “Young Adult” fiction but most actual adults will find the book frustrating.

Historia
When the Colonial Marines set out after their deadliest prey, the Xenomorphs, it's what Corporal Hicks calls a bug hunt - kill or be killed. Here are fifteen all-new stories of such "close encounters", written by many of today's most extraordinary authors. Set during the events of all four Alien films, sending the Marines to alien worlds, to derelict space settlements, and into the nests of the universe's most dangerous monsters, these adventures are guaranteed to send the blood racing - one way or another.

Disappointing
Revisado: 03-08-19
I was really excited for this collection of short stories based on the premise and reviews. However I feel that the author(s) ambitions to create this collection might have gotten the better of them. The biggest reason being is that the overall quality of these short stories is very disappointing. The preface gets you excited for the passion that went into soliciting their commissions but sadly this preface is the only real passionate writing in the collection. Most of these stories lack substance in terms of creativity, dialogue, and authenticity, feeling uninspired and exhibiting juvenile fan-fiction quality. Good overall concept but poor execution spanning almost the entire collection.

The year is 2026. China has taken over as the world's largest economy, while the United States, mired in an oil shortage, struggles to adjust to its diminished role. Then, a surprise attack throws the US into a chaos unseen since Pearl Harbor. As the enemy takes control, the survival of the nation will depend upon the most unlikely forces: the Navy's antiquated Ghost Fleet and a cadre of homegrown terrorists.

Not worth the money
Revisado: 11-26-16
The narration wasn't bad but the story itself is very disappointing for three main reasons:
1- the stereotypical dialogue found throughout the novel would make John Wayne cringe. The characters are equally shallow and uninteresting.
2-the author's technocratic outlook of the future feels very forced in its' description and given the proximity of the events to the present day, also very unrealistic.
3- the overall plot and sub-plots are extremely shallow and while some of the plot is clever, a great deal more demonstrates about as much depth in strategic thinking as goes into the premise for a Call of Duty video game.
