Historia
The planet is called Banshee. The air is unbreathable, the water poisonous. It is the home of the most implacable enemies that humanity, in all its interstellar expansion, has ever encountered. Felix is a scout in A-team Two. Highly competent, he is the sole survivor of mission after mission. Yet he is a man consumed by fear and hatred.

My most favorite Louis L’Amour
Revisado: 11-05-24
Finally! This book is now on audible. I had just relistened to Dune and decided to search for Bendigo Shafter for the 8th time and ding ding ding!!! And I laughed that one of the narrators for Dune did this book. Made me smile. This is a GREAT story. A classic coming of age story. A must listen to for anyone who loves the works of Mr L’Amour.

Feminist Fantasy FYI
Revisado: 09-22-22
FYI this is a feminist fantasy of what the woke of 21st century would try to do when they travel in time 3000 years past. 100 pound women are epic sword wielding warriors and tactical geniuses. Lol. The only trope this is missing is trans activists trying to convert gender of kids. This was written just before all the current nonsense. You can hold your nose and skip thru the girl boss sections to reflect on how modern technology could get used in the ancient past.

Historia
During a perfect spring evening on Nantucket, a violent storm erupts and a dome of crawling, colored fire blankets the island. When the howling winds subside and the night skies clear, the stars appear to have shifted. The mainland has become a wilderness of unbroken forest, where tools of bronze and stone litter the beaches, and primitive natives scatter in terror.

Woke nonsense
Revisado: 08-17-22
Ever wonder what woke fantasy is…this trash. MEN read fantasy novels. By the vast majority of all audiences. No one cares about a 100 pound Jesus lesbian savior. Come on man. You had a great Fauking premise. And you pissed it away with woke lesbian fantasies. Dump this sh@t. Imagine this book with real testosterone heroes. 7000 people on an island thrown back in time….Geeshus men would have quickly run the show and run the world. Like we have ALWAYS done. Such a missed opportunity. Narration was only ok.

Long time listener—High Praise
Revisado: 08-16-21
I have listened to many books over the years. This one is as really well done. An enjoyable fantasy yarn. A great world. Novel characters. Good speed of plot. I saw comments questioning aspects of the narration…it is truly a gem. If you enjoy richly painted narratives and deep, melodic timbre narration…this is one for you. I rank this very high. One I will enjoy again in the future. Bravo.

Historia
John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce—and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding. Earth itself is a backwater.

Painful constant sit com like one-liners are terribly distracting.
Revisado: 07-03-21
I couldn’t get thru this. Skipping along chapters hoping it would get better. Just nonstop painful. The narrator is eh too. I don’t want to listen to old people moaning about being old. I quit at chapter 7.
Only way this got Hugo consideration was that this author is part of the writers clique. I’ve read countless winners. This had no business being considered.

Unfortunate audio errors and splices
Revisado: 06-03-19
One of my favorite books. Voice performance was just ok but the obvious and glaring splicing happens quite a bit. This book needs more low by audible.
