It was OK. Not great, but not bad. Once you see the direction the series has to go-you know the whodunnit.
The parallel to the Evanovich series is annoying. It’s like getting to know Morelli and a stupider/lazy version of Ranger from the start. Just combine Connie and Lula into a best friend and change the parents to hippies. Still have the bumbling, brave but not so intelligent lead.
Like I said, not bad… just not new or up to the level of creativity I expected from Lindsey.

This series has gone downhill the first two-three books were amazing. Now it’s full of unrealistic story lines and political gobbledygook.

Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

Wow, I was really expecting this to be phenomenal. Perhaps that is why I am so disappointed. It had a great start… then one of what you assume to be a main character literally disappears for chapters. I swear they were more concerned with writing overly dramatic action scenes for a possible movie than concentrating on character development and plot. I keep having to go back and listen to chapters over because I was so bored with the story that my brain kept tuning out. I’m so so sad. This had so much potential- I wish they would go back to writing books with character depth rather than potential visuals for a possible movie.

Hit and miss
Revisado: 06-07-24
I really don’t get the reviews saying this was suspenseful or plot twisting. Two characters’ involvement was obviously from the start. In my opinion the reviews stating that the main character was immature and whinny had more to do with the narrator’s voice choice and tone. The voice of the brother was not consistent either. As for the book dragging- I feel that was also largely due to the narration. Speeding up the pace to 1.15 helped the tone and pace… still whinny - but didn’t make the main character seem as much like a little girl. I really like this author, so I am going to give the next book in the series a try… hopefully the narrator improves with practice, she seems young and inexperienced.

This was my first book by Rothschild, but will not be my last. Excellent story and interesting characters. A good mystery without being overly graphic, yet not a cosy type mystery. Therese Plummer is amazing, as always and the reason I gave this author a try.

Prequel read the series first.
Revisado: 03-31-24
This is obviously the prequel for a series- usually reading the prequels first is good. But if you read this one first realize that even though it’s a really great book-it sucks. I’m not sure I’ll read the series now.

Historia
When she was only 16, Cassidy Buchanan fell for the 19-year-old bad boy in town, Brig McKenzie, who'd had his share of run-ins with both the law and the local women. Then a terrible fire killed Cassidy's sister, and Brig, the chief suspect, was forced to run away. Seventeen years later, an eerily similar fire seriously injures Cassidy's husband, Chase, who happens to be Brig's brother. With the earlier fire still an open case, suspicion turns to Cassidy, the only unharmed person connected to both tragedies.

Repetitive and Pedophilic
Revisado: 03-30-24
It drones on and on going in loops. I finally started skipping chapters. The teen and pedophile sex scenes were disturbing. I usually love her books old and new-but this was a total waste of my money.

Drrraaaaggggssss on forrrrevvver
Revisado: 03-30-24
The narrator did an excellent job. The story could have been cut in half. The whole uncle/politician like was pointless and unprofitable for the uncle so why on earth would anyone with half a brain cell keep it up? I feel for the kids, but if CPS was really watching why would they let it go on? Just really nonsensical on many levels.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Incredible, even with all the great reviews- I was hesitant. My go to are fast paced crime/thrillers with a cozy mystery here and there. I haven’t felt this emotional about a book since the first time I read “The Shack.” The book and great narrator pulled me in right away. I listened to it straight through while working in the yard. The story lines are weaved together like silk. The narration is superb. It illustrates how as large as this world is and as small as we sometimes feel, we are all intertwined. I love the mystery of the ocean, sea life, wild life… basically everything but the 3 deadly Ses- Spiders, Snakes and Scorpions. I will name my next adopted animal- no matter what it is- after Marcellus. If you have a heart, you NEED to read this book.

Historia
For decades the Moore Asylum was home to the forgotten children of Brooklyn Bay. But ever since a scandal forced its closure, the abandoned building has cast an imposing shadow. Until now - when an elderly man is found dead, his body strapped to an ancient gurney. Detective Lucy Harwin, still reeling from a previous case that ended in the devastating murder of a mother and her child, finds herself on the trail of a killer ruthlessly fixated on avenging the asylum's wrongs.

Good but a bit flat
Revisado: 03-14-24
The story line was interesting and talks about a time in history that we try to conveniently forget. If your wife gets boring, or has too much of an opinion throw her in an asylum- kid misbehaving, as a learning disability or handicap- throw them in the asylum. It’s an interesting take. My biggest issue- the nicest, most likable person in the book is the cheating ex-husband. The main character is narcissistic, tacky and just not likable. I just couldn’t get behind her at all. There needs to be a LOT more character development…. Though some reviews are saying this is actually the second book- so maybe that’s part of the problem. Great narration.
