Redemption in Family and Running
Revisado: 02-25-25
A tear-jerker of a story of a man’s battle with a DOJ that doesn’t seem to be very interested in justice, and the hard work of keeping his family intact while he is incarcerated. The story is aided by comparing life challenges to trail running. You don’t have to worry about the finish line. Just make it to the next aid station.

Historia
Few figures in American politics have seen more and said less than Mitt Romney. An outspoken dissident in Donald Trump’s GOP, he has made headlines in recent years for standing alone against the forces he believes are poisoning the party he once led. Romney was the first senator in history to vote to remove from office a president of his own party. When that president’s supporters went on to storm the US Capitol, Romney delivered a thundering speech from the Senate floor accusing his fellow Republicans of stoking insurrection.

More than self their country loved
Revisado: 10-29-23
I often develop a favorable bias toward biography subjects and this is no exception. I grew up in Utah, moved away for 25 years and recently returned, I am proud to have a man as principled as Senator/Governor Romney as one of my senators. I am confident history will judge him well. This book will help with that task.
I read Isaacson’s biography of Elon Musk directly before reading Romney. What a contrast! Musk claims to passionately support democracy, but, despite his many accomplishments, largely fails as a man, due to a lack of compassion. Mitt Romney’s compassion is an asset that activates and amplifies his effectiveness as a leader. Despite much worry about America’s future, this book gives me license to embrace an optimistic perspective. If there is one Mitt Romney out there, perhaps others will emerge when the student is ready.

Historia
As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. In his unique voice, Bono takes us from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was fourteen, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his more than twenty years of activism.

The top line melody of a life
Revisado: 11-19-22
My life is more rich because of this man’s work. His music has long found resonant frequency with my soul. This book does the same. Thank you, Bono.

More than meets the eye (or ear)
Revisado: 01-10-21
You might think this is a story about a man and a boy in a post-apocalyptic America. You’d be wrong. This is a story about all fathers and all children, across all generations and in all geographies. A most touching allegory.
