Historia
It started with a kiss. In 1955, that’s what the best beach volleyball players in the world played for: A kiss from Hollywood star Greta Thyssen. It was a seminal moment for the sport, and the subculture that it soon birthed: Players could ditch the 9-5 work life and instead spend their days on the beach, working odd jobs to make ends meet, doing whatever it took to stay on the sand.

Hang in there. It’s worth it.

Like Bob Ross at the canvas, about half way through America Before I’m not convinced Hancock is going to be able to pull this one off. And then he puts his final few strokes in at the end and, masterpiece. Never mind that he might be wrong. Probable wrong. Almost certainly wrong about much of what he posits. The majesty of this story is just that. The story. It’s fascinating to consider the theories he puts forth. And he has an incredible work ethic. The amount of research he does is staggering. Maybe too much, because that’s where I start to fade. In the middle of an extremely detailed set of data about Amazonian farming techniques or Mississippian mound building. But like I said, by the end he brings it all home beautifully.
