This book was a fun read had a lot of anecdotes about the Hapsburg family. Written by Edward Hapsburg it was clearly a presentation of his family history in very positive light. He sprinkled in there essentially what constitutes traditional was Catholic history. However, it isn’t really much of a defence of either traditional Catholicism or the Hapsburgs. He doesn’t really engage in any argument he simply just tells a story of his family in a positive light. A fun, quick book, but not serious scholarship about the Hapsburgs or generally a defence of the values they represented. I am not dissatisfied with my purchase but I would put this book in the category of those that’s really designed to build the authors reputation And to make money not really to communicate anything particularly noteworthy or to convey information otherwise not previously accessible. That being said as a confessional protestant I did appreciate the book.

This book really dives into the significance of households to the social order and the Christian church’s advance.
