Historia
The site of the old campus bungalow where two girls were brutally slain is now a flower patch covered with chrysanthemums. It's been 50 years since the Immaculate Conception Murders. Three more students and a teacher were killed in a sickening spree that many have forgotten. But there is one person who knows every twisted detail... Hannah O'Rourke and her volatile half-sister, Eden, have little in common except a parent. Yet they've ended up at the same small college outside Chicago, sharing a bungalow with another girl.

Ugh! The narrator!
Revisado: 05-06-24
The first book in the series by Kevin O’Brien was narrated by the same woman. It ruined a good story. I forgot about her since I listened to that book a while ago and didn’t know it was in a series. When I started this one, and heard the same hyperactive, breathless, high-pitched explosions, I almost turned it off. I made it through, but the end was brutal, when the action and danger increased. Human beings don’t freak out like that for that long!

I disliked all three of these books
Revisado: 03-21-24
I liked Kiersten Modglin’s books up until now. But these three books were lame with weak plots and annoying characters. Maybe that’s why they lumped them together. Thumbs down.

Great story
Revisado: 03-18-24
I’m looking up this author to listen to all of her books. She is excellent. No too much, not underwhelming. I loved the plot structure of going back and forth between the past and present. The pace was great.

When Ruby McTavish Callahan Woodward Miller Kenmore dies, she’s not only North Carolina’s richest woman, she’s also its most notorious. The victim of a famous kidnapping as a child and a widow four times over, Ruby ruled the tiny town of Tavistock from Ashby House, her family’s estate high in the Blue Ridge Mountains. But in the aftermath of her death, her adopted son, Camden, wants little to do with the house or the money—and even less to do with the surviving McTavishes.

This story was so clever. So well-written. It kept my interest until the very last paragraphs full of unexpected twists. If you want a good one, written in a great format, get The Heiress!

Historia
In this “outstanding debut thriller” (Booklist, starred review), Helen’s idyllic life—handsome architect husband, gorgeous Victorian house, and cherished baby on the way—begins to change the day she attends her first prenatal class. There, she meets Rachel, an unpredictable single mother-to-be who doesn’t seem very maternal: she smokes, drinks, and professes little interest in parenthood.

Katherine Faulkner is SO GOOD at twists and turns!
Revisado: 03-13-24
I really loved this book! I listened to it in one day as I cleaned the house and did yard work. It actually made me more productive because I didn’t want to stop listening! Katherine Faulkner’s balance between what she reveals and what she leaves to the imagination is perfect. Her descriptions are spot on. I highly recommend this book! ( and I’m picky when it comes to mysteries)

Historia
For myself and Lauren, my 10-year-old daughter No 3 Beech Close was to be our refuge after two years of hell nursing my sick mother. In need of a fresh start and wanting to distance ourselves from the bad memories of my mother’s house we moved to Beech Close, a small cul-de-sac of six houses situated around a picture-perfect green. It seemed perfect but I had underestimated the secrets that this tightknit community shared. Within hours of moving in my next-door neighbour Valerie made it abundantly clear we were not welcome.

Imagine Church’s narration and a story that dragged on earned one star
Revisado: 03-11-24
Finally! It’s over! I usually love British mysteries, but this one had a very slow dragging plot with a lot of dog walking and suspecting everyone. Imagine Church’s pronunciation of words were overly dramatic and so annoying. I do not recommend this book.

Ugh that narrator!
Revisado: 02-04-24
This book drove me nuts. The narrator escalated her voice to near hysterical at certain parts of the story. It was so weird that I couldn’t even focus on what she was sayin.
I kept losing interest because there were too many details about every day activities that were not related to the plot. Example: “ Suddenly there was a knock at the door. She approached the door at a medium gait. She turned the knob and slowly opened the door. There, standing before her, was the pizza delivery man from the local pizza place she had called 30 minutes earlier. She counted out several dollar bills and handed them to the man, and he, in turn, handed her the pizza box. She smiled gently, thanking the pizza delivery man who stood there in his grease-stained shirt and baseball hat. She closed the door and took the pizza to the kitchen as she inhaled deeply, the spices delighting her nostrils…” Get the picture? It annoyed me!!!!
Plus I didn’t really like Sheila.

Tamara’s reactions are not believable
Revisado: 01-05-24
At first I liked the story and the main character. But she kept reacting to people and situations unrealistically. She would fly off the handle too quickly and use word choices that were not appropriate for the emotion. I had trouble knowing if Tamara loved or hated her husband. It was all over the place. The ending was weak.
