Historia
His fiction is known to be some of the most terrifying in the genre of supernatural horror, but Thomas Ligotti's first nonfiction book may be even scarier. Drawing on philosophy, literature, neuroscience, and other fields of study, Ligotti takes the penetrating lens of his imagination and turns it on his audience, causing them to grapple with the brutal reality that they are living a meaningless nightmare, and anyone who feels otherwise is simply acting out an optimistic fallacy.

It’s OK to be angry about capitalism. Reflecting on our turbulent times, Senator Bernie Sanders takes on the billionaire class and speaks blunt truths about our country’s failure to address the destructive nature of a system that is fueled by uncontrolled greed and rigidly committed to prioritizing corporate profits over the needs of ordinary Americans.

BERNIE IS THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE!
Revisado: 05-30-23
If anyone had an election stolen from him, it was Bernie. This book is a testament to what politics could be, to what ideals could do, and to who we, the American people, have the power to become, if our government, media, and judicial system would shrug off the capital oligarchs and reclaim our democracy. I thank you Bernie, as deeply and gratefully as I can, for standing up to those of us who wish we had your gifts of speech and persuasion, and for giving us yet another beautifully written glimpse into the world we we rarely see explored by our propaganda driven reporters. We must do more to support people like Bernie, or we will soon be as mute and compliant as the cattle the Republicans and Democrats think we are. Thank you again, Bernie, for this book and all you do.

Historia
In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

Historia
Generation after generation, women have faced the devastating reality that Hollywood is a system built to keep them out. The films created by that system influence everything from our worldviews to our brain chemistry. When women's voices are excluded from the medium, the impact on society is immense. Actor, screenwriter, and award-winning independent filmmaker Naomi McDougall Jones takes us inside the cutthroat, scandal-laden film industry, where only five percent of top studio films are directed by women and less than 20 percent of leading characters in mainstream films are female.

The Magnum Opus for the Human Race
Revisado: 05-28-18
If I was visiting Earth from a distant planet and wanted to understand the local wildlife, this is the book I'd read. Written with Harari distinctive and intuitive voice, this book lays out our history, both the good and bad, as one might pin the wings of a butterfly - He exposes everything. Displaying a rare mature humor he explains the humanist's motivations, our foibles, and the aspirations of our progeny, the dataists, and why their future is inevitable. An entertaining, thoughtful, and well-researched novel, narrated superbly, and a thinker I intend to follow for years to come. Well done and thank you.

Pandemonium: a twilight dimension of nightmare creatures, mythical beings, the undead, and everything in between. To Dead Jack, it’s hell sweet hell. In the first book of the series, the tortured, drug-addicted detective and his associate, the homunculus Oswald, face rogue leprechauns, ghost pirates, a sex-obsessed shark woman, sycophantic ghouls, an insecure fire demon, and a goateed maniac who calls himself the Duke of Pandemonium.

A Detective Story for the Zombie in All of Us
Revisado: 05-27-18
If you take the authentic irreverent voice of a superb storyteller and mix it with the imagination of Lovecraft, the plotting of Robert E. Howard, and throw in a twist of Monty Python, you'll have an idea of what a wild and entertaining ride you can expect reading Dead Jack. James masterfully blends mythos and humor into a fun romp through a well-developed world of zombies, trans-dimensional cats, and the black science the Nazi's thought would help them win the war. Masterfully narrated, I truly enjoyed Dead Jack and highly recommend it as your next purchase.

The First Hero Story Ever Written
Revisado: 05-02-18
Written in a way that transcends time, Stephen Michell's adaptation of "Gilgamesh," is one of the best I've experienced. George Guidall's rich narration was exceptional as it drew me into the story, complimented the dialogue, and elevated the already outstanding writing. Stephen's post-story discussion and exposition was as a rare treat, and I would strongly encourage anyone looking to explore this epic to purchase this version. You won't be disappointed. Well done!

A Poignant Work of Scientific Liturature
Revisado: 05-02-18
In his book, “Heavens on Earth,” Michael Shermer does a wonderful job of addressing and debunking many of the anti-aging theories. Additionally, he provides rational arguments as to why humans cling to these theories despite the discouraging evidence. He addresses the ethereal aspects of new-aged religions, the cultish draw of technologic immortality, the way we think as we approach death, and how people are fooled into thinking they've experienced life-after-death or that a child could be the reincarnated soul of a dead pilot. I was impressed with the respect he showed our varied human belief systems even as he methodically dissected the tender flesh to reveal the brittle bones upon which they were built. This is a book for thinkers, written by a thinker, and it garners my highest praise and respect. Well done!

Through Dr. Samuel Harrington's own experience with the aging and deaths of his parents and of working with patients, he describes the terminal patterns of the six most common chronic diseases; how to recognize a terminal diagnosis even when the doctor is not clear about it; how to have the hard conversation about end-of-life wishes; how to minimize painful treatments; when to seek hospice care; and how to deal with dementia and other special issues.

A Personal Journey
Revisado: 05-02-18
Dr. Samuel Harrington’s book, “At Peace: Choosing a Good Death After a Long Life," explores the six most common chronic diseases that lead to death in America (congestive heart failure, cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, stroke, dementia, and diabetes), how to recognize when one of these illnesses is nearing its natural conclusion, and what options a patient might have other than the aggressive care measures medicine offers. He talks about both his professional experience managing death as a gastrointerologist as well as the personal growth he experienced helping his parents face end-of-life choices. I thought this was well-written, personal, and thought-provoking and have put it out for my patients to read. I would encourage other providers to do the same.
