Historia
One of the 20th century's enduring works, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a widely beloved and acclaimed novel known throughout the world and the ultimate achievement in a Nobel Prize-winning career. The novel tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family. Rich and brilliant, it is a chronicle of life, death, and the tragicomedy of humankind. In the beautiful, ridiculous, and tawdry story of the Buendía family, one sees all of humanity, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo, one sees all of Latin America.

Frustrating Classic
Revisado: 06-21-23
Well written book & storyline that keeps you reading, but isn’t overly compelling. Gives a snapshot of an extended timeline in history, but is frustrating with the inability of its characters to develop, repeat mistakes & change course in life.

Historia
Colonel Mitchell "Ares" Williams has never been one to accept failure. While the outcome on Liberty is a crushing setback to his and the Riggers' chances of salvaging the war, there's no time to waste on regret. After all, the mission wasn't a total loss, delivering an unexpected asset in the wake of their defeat - Liun Tio, aka the Knife, a notorious warlord and enemy of the Alliance whose deep-seated mistrust of artificial intelligence and control over what may be the largest free fleet in the galaxy have made him the most important man alive.

Historia
Why did Hitler choose not to invade England when he had the chance? Europe, 1940. It's late summer, and Belgium has been overrun by the German army. Posing as a friar, a British operative talks his way into the monastery at Villers-devant-Orval just before Nazi art thieves plan to sweep through the area and whisk everything of value back to Berlin. But the ersatz man of the cloth is no thief. Instead, that night he adds an old leather Bible to the monastery's library and then escapes. London, 2017. A construction worker operating a backhoe makes a grisly discovery - a skeletal arm bone with a rusty handcuff attached to the wrist.

Entertaining short read
Revisado: 06-13-22
The bookworm & prophecy angle was clever and interesting. But the economics & oil storyline is implausible, especially apparent to anyone with knowledge of those fields.

Four Winds Incomplete
Revisado: 02-09-22
This was a fascinating story about the dust bowls devastation, the impact on daily life, internal migration and life in CA. It was so much worse than the snippets in history books indicate. Even more so the treatment of dust bowlers by the Californians. But Ms Hannah winds in a communist thread portraying them as hero’s for the workers. But doesn’t not resolve the story line to the long term outcomes of communism in widespread poverty and oppression. Ultimately she dismisses it as a fad. Closure also wasn’t achieved to the end of the dust bowl years. Overall, it is worth reading.
