Brigitte Gabriel reads with passion, the passion of a person who has experienced tyranny and fled to freedom and now witnesses in horror her beloved adopted country falling to the very same tyranny she escaped. She is right.

The very frightening facts and the honesty with which they're told stand out most prominently.

The author has written from her own intimate experience of the mindset of Arab muslims and the middle-eastern way in which things are done. This is very apparent by the matter-of-fact way she states things most sheltered and naive westerners wouldn't ever dream of, let alone have nightmares over, which they should. I like the fact that she suggests things we can each do to combat terrorism and the destruction of our western judeo-christian heritage. The author's advice on the subject of the middle-east conflict should have been sought, and acted on, many presidents ago. The story frightened me, and at times brought me to tears, especially when she described the death of her boyfriend. This book was written in 2005, but is even more relevant in 2024, when we find ourselves on the edge of the precipice.

I love the author's voice, and her expressive reading of her work. I love the way she proffers ways of changing the dangerous situation the world finds itself in. I agree with her that Western feminists need to stand up for their Muslim sisters, and that excessive tolerance of foreign cultures, rather than being a kindness in the West, does nothing to help migrants assimilate and be absorbed by the receiving cultures.
I love Aayan's love of humanity. Her desire to save Muslim women from oppression and ill treatment. Her appreciation of the good things in Western civilization. Her display, from first-hand experience of how boys in the Muslim world are also oppressed and made into angry, violent men, unable to make something of their lives because the expectations of their elders make them feel entitled to have the goods thrust upon them.

Tells the history of Islamist antisemitism from the time of Mohammed to the present day. An excellent factual account. I recommend it to all who are unfamiliar with the factual history of the middle east as opposed to the inventions of the enemies of the Jewish people, who impute their own actions to the Jews. Even more relevant and real today than when it was researched and written.

This book is excellently researched and written. The reading is measured and not sensational. Each chapter deals with its own aspect of the ways in which our exploitation of animals impacts them, ourselves, and the planet we all inhabit. I listened to all 9 chapters of it twice on two consecutive days. I highly recommend it.

I'd read this book in my early twenties and was enthralled. So I was thrilled to find it in audible, which made my disappointment so much worse. The narrator has a beautiful voice but always reads in the same sing-song, as though he isn't alwats conscious of what he's reading. Perhaps he was bored, but this us like a classroom reading and lost my attention frequently. So disappointing!

A soothing voice; a compassionate, an empathetic attitude; puts today's events in their historical contexts. I loved every second of Professor Garland's course and wished it wouldn't end. I hope to find more by him.
