Love this series!
Revisado: 01-30-25
I love this series and alllll the characters involved butttt I will say the second and third books are a tad smutty for my taste (such a personal opinion, if that’s your thing I don’t knock it at alll) AND I still loved the book and the characters continuation, the love stories involved in this one were so heart warming and well thought out. the magic involved was endearing throughout. Over all 4.5 from me. 😊

Love these books! The narrator being male this time makes sense since the story has moved on to be more about the boys. I loved the narrator & the story was a great continuation.

A good summing up of the original story. I will say out of the three books I liked this one the least. But I still love all things hawthorn and it’s worth the read all the way to the end.

Historia
Thanks to a DNA test, Avery knows that she’s not a Hawthorne by blood, but clues pile up hinting at a deeper connection to the family than she had ever imagined. As the mystery grows and the plot thickens, Grayson and Jameson, two of the enigmatic and magnetic Hawthorne grandsons, continue to pull Avery in different directions. And there are threats lurking around every corner, as adversaries emerge who will stop at nothing to see Avery out of the picture - by any means necessary.

Book #2 even better than book #1
Revisado: 02-16-23
Book #2 even better than book #1 ????
This series started with a very narrow view of “the game” or “mystery” and I feel like the second book went more in depth. Bigger stakes, more grown up in a way.
The mystery continues and it only gets better.
We get a lot of character development in this book for Avery and all the main characters really, including max, Xander, Oren, Zara, Rebecca, Thea, Jameson and Greyson. (With the ladder two still being the most mysterious of the bunch in my opinion)
I like how this one seemed like everyone was a group, or on Avery’s “team” it felt like instead of book one where Avery is very isolated.
She is coming into her own in this book, she gets some of the answers she’s searching for even though maybe they aren’t the answers she expects.
It seems to me that mostly this poor girl just wants to know herself, a girl who is still coming out of survival mode & in this book we get to see more of the real her instead of her tough exterior.
Overall I very much enjoyed book 2 and am going straight into book 3.
The audio voice for these books does an amazing job & fits to the character perfect in my opinion.

Kirsten Raymonde will never forget the night Arthur Leander, the famous Hollywood actor, had a heart attack on stage during a production of King Lear. That was the night when a devastating flu pandemic arrived in the city, and within weeks, civilization as we know it came to an end.

The first time I have to say the show is better than the book
Revisado: 01-28-23
First things first the narrator is great, did not have any issue with the narration.
Although I think this is the kind of book that needs to be read from a physical copy, the book itself and the chapters are set up quite neatly and it dosnt convey well in audible form.
The HBO show is amazing. A beautiful adaptation of this story, they took some creative liberties to tie some story lines together a little more and I think it made for a way better story. But because the two are so different, I am trying to think of them as being totally separate.
All that said, this is a beautiful story of love, loss, survival and every other big human emotion. It’s about grief over the death of our society & the comfortable lives people too forgranted. It’s about how as humans we will always want more than to just survive. “Survival is insufficient”
The characters in this book are what allowed me to get through it, everyone is so genuinely human and every encounter or event that happens in the book is also so relatable human.
Overall it is a great book but I would absolutely suggest the HBO show over the book, or give both a try.

PEELING BACK MORE LAYERS OF THE ONION
Revisado: 09-09-22
Short review : great book, furthers the story as a whole. This one reallly peels back the proverbial onion on people / places / events we only got glimpses of in the original two books.
But there was enough back story laid in the first two books to really give the whole thing a nice pace, & with good character development.
The voice of the narrator in this one…she’s good but she over acts sometimes? Her accents are a little much at times. BUT I will say though, I would rather an over-exaggerator over monotone any day of the week.
