Just plain boring
Revisado: 03-28-25
That would have been a good book if they could’ve delve into the pain and the torture this guy‘s victims went through. Instead, they take two hours to tell you about the place where he lived, and then another three hours to give you more background and then another two hours just to give his life story. A very long and boring book.

No David Sedaris
Revisado: 02-15-25
I waited for at least a good six months for this book to come out out. Reading whom ever wrote the very early review, I thought it would surely be a winner. After all, Alton Brown has a great reputation. Unfortunately, his book, well at least this book to me does not.
He definitely is not a David Sedaris. I guess the type of book I was looking for would be more of an in depth tutorial about how good eats got started, some of his creative insights, and maybe some mishaps that happened along the way. While this book does offer some of this(very little for my liking) he does have a few interesting stories and a few other stories that could have been totally left out of the book. I was going to return the book and see about getting something else, however, I am the type that would like to stay in for the long haul, just like I have been with good eats. So I think I will give it another few readings, or in this case listenings and maybe I will grow warm to it. I am definitely willing to try. To those thinking about purchasing the book I would say if you’re able to purchase it and if it’s not to your liking return it then by all means give it a worthwhile listen or two.

Wonderful story, behind a funny man
Revisado: 02-04-25
Finally! After waiting 55+ years, a audiobook, of , “Harppo speaks”. ever sense I saw The TV show “YOU BET YOUR LIFE “ and Harpo came on to give away his book to the contestants, I always wanted to read it, but can never find it. Finally, the book has been resurrected, and is a funny and heartwarming story of the behind-the-scenes of at least one of the Marx brothers. The reader does a good job at convening Harpo Marx‘s story . Now I just have to wait, and hopefully not another 55 years for Audible to come out with Groucho Marx book, ” speaking of Groucho “

Boring!
Revisado: 11-25-24
I am a product of the late 50s and the 60s and the early part of the 70s. I thought I was going to enjoy this book and I thought it would be informative, however, I was grossly misled by what I thought. This book is drier than dust. Although there are some good shows that are mentioned just the telling of the story is boring. I thought it would delve more into how they came into being and how they were produced. Sorry, but this book isn’t for me, I was thinking about returning it, but I can’t find the button to return it so I guess I will continue to listen to see if there’s any tidbits that our memorial .

Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve was a popular character appearing regularly on The Fibber McGee & Molly Show. On August 31, 1941, the character landed his own situation comedy show, The Great Gildersleeve, becoming radio’s first spin-off. Gildy moved from the town of Wistful Vista to Summerfield, where he raised his orphaned niece and nephew, Marjorie (originally played by Lurene Tuttle and followed by Louise Erickson and Mary Lee Robb) and Leroy (Walter Tetley). The household also included a cook named Birdie (Lillian Randolph).

Next to fibber McGee and Molly, the great Gildersleeve comes in as number two. Out of all the radio fibber McGee and Molly, the great Gildersleeve
and Amos and Andy were the only good radio shows to listen to.

Historia
Lithuanian immigrant Jurgis Rudkus has invested every last hope in achieving a prosperous new start in a new country. But the only job open to him - in the appalling stockyards of Packingtown, Chicago - will become a brutal, dispiriting, and dangerous challenge to his pride, his family, his life, and his faith in the American Dream. A scathing condemnation of capitalism, corporate corruption, and the exploitation of the working class, The Jungle was a sensation when first published. It stands as one the greatest and most influential proletarian novels ever written.

Revisado: 09-22-24
What makes a book a good book? And 90% of the time it’s the reader. While this reader is not the greatest, there are other readers out there such as Grover Gardner, and the best one George Guidell. Try listening to one of those first, they make the experience come to life.

Historia
In March of 2001, Federal prosecutor Mark Devereaux cold-called Rob Holm, the head of security for McDonald's Corporation. Without explanation, Devereaux asked that Holm and several other McDonald's senior executives plan a visit to the Jacksonville, Florida, FBI, and tell no one about their intended destination. It wasn't up for discussion. Upon their arrival, Devereaux watched them closely, looking at body language, checking for tells. To him, they were all potential suspects.

Someone ate too much McDonalds. The story is extremely excellent. However it sounds very tinny. Sounds sometimes like it was recorded in a big empty restroom. Very hard at times to listen to.

Christina Crawford's book was an immediate bestseller, addressing the infrequently discussed topic of child abuse. When Paramount Pictures released the film, starring Faye Dunaway as Crawford, it was critically panned, and remains one of the most legendary critical bombs in film history. The lavish, big-screen adaptation drew unexpected laughter in the scenes depicting life in the Crawford household. Rarely have such good intentions been met with such ridicule.

Historia
Prosecuting attorney in the Manson trial Vincent Bugliosi held a unique insider's position in one of the most baffling and horrifying cases of the 20th century: the cold-blooded Tate-LaBianca murders carried out by Charles Manson and four of his followers. What motivated Manson in his seemingly mindless selection of victims, and what was his hold over the young women who obeyed his orders? Now available for the first time in unabridged audio, the gripping story of this famous and haunting crime is brought to life by acclaimed narrator Scott Brick.

The story is most interesting, how the police were able to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
Revisado: 03-13-24
While the audiobook is a great listen, unfortunately, I don’t think Scott brick is right for the narration. The first time I listened to this book, Vito was doing the narration of his own story. Vito has a much deeper voice, where is Scott has a more higher tone voice. I enjoy listening to Scott brick with his other audiobooks, such as the firm and devil in the White city, just to name two. Unfortunately, I would much rather have someone else do the narration.

Historia
Hounded by the tabloid media, driven from his self-made sanctuary at Neverland, Michael Jackson spent his final years moving from city to city, living with his three children in virtual seclusion - a futile attempt to escape a world that wouldn’t leave him alone. During that time, two men served as the singer’s personal security team: Bill Whitfield, a former cop and veteran of the security profession, and Javon Beard, a brash, untested rookie, both single fathers themselves. Stationed at his side nearly 24/7, their job was to see and hear everything that transpired.

Security team speaks out
Revisado: 02-01-24
While the book started out slow, (most books do ) it increasingly got better. The best part is hearing about the security guards having to dip into their own pockets in order to pay for things that Michael Jackson would not or could not pay . All in all, it’s an OK book, but highly recommended but recommended nonetheless. It’s always nice hearing firsthand accounts.
