What the bloody Hell ladies...
Revisado: 07-05-15
Alright ladies, I am a guy age 31 and am definitely not an Alpha male and not even in the running for a Beta position, but OMG what the ^$$& %^#%$@. I am going to put this comment in all 4 books review section trying not to be too spoilery and dare any of you to prove me wrong or tell me off, so here goes.
I started this series because I liked Karma and Jinxed by this author and even listened to the first three books in this series hoping it would get better but it did not. I don't understand how women can even enjoy this. Don't get me wrong in high school I could never seem to find a female lead character appealing but with age I found the Jane Yellowrock series and the Mercy Thompson series wonderful reads. I even as a guilty pleasure listen to some of Molly Harpers stuff which can veer very close to romance novel territory. The reason I can't enjoy these books is because of that colossal d***head that is Cormac, how in the world is this guy appealing. I think in the second or third book Jo asks if he was even born A.D. and he says yes but one of his guys whispers under his breath "not by much", so how can a guy nearly two thousand years old not have better dating tactics than...(I know Jo is damaged and needs persuading)...by browbeating, bullying, and blackmail to get the girl is not cool. How can this be termed a healthy relationship.
I enjoy the Dresden Files books because even though it may not work in the long term and have bad repercussions but ever once in a while when not dancing around other characters with wits he can go "HULK angry, HULK smash." that's what I needed Jo to do at least once in the relationship. Jo can't even outwit Cormac, Jane Yellowrock or Mercy Thompson would have run rings around him. Cormac steals her f***ing trailer ladies and it is never seem again. Even when bullying and blackmail don't work all he has to do is get Jo a little steamed up and she will forgive anything he wants.
In this book Cormac abandons her (I suppose with good intentions) but when he comes back NO repercussions, no one question his bad behavior to her. He blackmails her to even stay in the apartment. So Ladies why is Cormac appealing at all??
Jo could use a friend on her side, her first best friend finally learns the truth and is instantly taken away. Jo get friendly with the Doc, who is never seen again (maybe later in book 4 she comes back but I could not get that far). Even Jo's sort of friends welcome Cormac back with open arms and seem to say "Ok Jo Cormac is back stop this little hissy fit and get back with your man."
I was screaming at my mp3 player KILL HIM, KILL HIM or at least punch him in the balls a couple of time every time he wormed or bullied or persuaded her after a fight to show there are consequences.
So there is my rant please feel free to ignore or correct me.
Sincerely Aaron

Historia
Ree Reyes’s life was easier when all she had to worry about was scraping together tips from her gig as a barista and comic shop slave to pursue her ambitions as a screenwriter. When a scruffy-looking guy storms into the shop looking for a comic like his life depends on it, Ree writes it off as just another day in the land of the geeks. Until a gigantic “BOOM!” echoes from the alley a minute later, and Ree follows the rabbit hole down into her town’s magical flip-side.

Geek-o-rama

I am such a geek, I picked up on about 95% of all the references made in this delightful story. From comics to television to movies, Star Wars, BSG, DC Comics, and Magic the Gathering collector cards. What a witty fast paced ride. Weather you are a geek of the highest Jedi Order or a relative newbie you will be hugging yourself with a warm fuzzy feelings as Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer ("Once More with Feeling" anyone?), Star Wars laser discs, or BBC's Sherlock references are made.
What pulpy geeky fun this is. I hope this author produces more of series. Great female protagonist, Ree may have her problems but overall a kick@ss character. A great cast of characters, the steampunk adventurer, the burnt out Eastwood, the Thrice retconned Duke of Hell all fabulously hilarious.
Julia Farhat wouderfully and gleefully brings these characters to life.

It's coming up on Cajeiri's birthday. The boy has been promised he can have the young human children he knew from his voyage sent down from the space station for a two week stay. But there's a far darker business going on in the background - a major split compromising the Assassins' Guild, which furnishes security and law enforcement to the whole continent. Tabini's consort's own father has been barred from court, and may be involved in a new conspiracy against him.

Another fun ride with Bren Cameron the Paidhi-aiji
Revisado: 04-05-13
A great entry into the Foreigner universe. I have read and reread this books for years, and have always enjoyed the political back and forth throughout these books. The wonderful points of view, Bren and Cajieri's lives are always interesting and fraught with danger. Illsidi with her sharp wit and distinctive rap of her cane.
My problem with Mrs. C.J. Cherryh is she seems to be retconning the story in these latter books. For example, all of a sudden the reasons for the mission to Reunion Station seems to have changed or peoples motivations shift. Its is slightly jarring to find things from the earlier trilogies that were set down in print seem not to apply anymore. I understand changing things here and there to keep the flow even and not have two or three chapter of "What Has Come Before" exposition, but some of it almost seems lazy writing.
Don't misunderstand this series is one of my all time favorites. Also the Fortress series is wonderful, along with the Hammerfall books and the Faded Sun trilogy introduced me to the amazing world building and realms of political space dramas in my teenaged years.
I understand that in the Foreigner universe they are continually examining the politics and motivations to more deeply explore the world.... arrg.... other fans may have noticed or not. I can't seem to put it into words.
The narrator was great as was the story. The buildup to Cajieri's birthday and that Cherryh is finally getting back to such characters as Jase and Kaplin is fantastic. Four out of five instead of 3 out of 5...... well because its more Foreigner...... but.... but....
