Detective Ramsey wasn’t a particularly likable character when I first started listening to these books but he’s definitely grown on me. I thought this one was interesting and it definitely kept me guessing about the murderer until near the end. Definitely recommend to anyone who is a fan of this author

This isn’t a mystery, it’s a short story about some of the characters from the Matthew Ven series

Ann Cleeves knows her way around a mystery and this one is a perfect example. Interesting characters, lots of twists, totally surprised by the ending. Definitely recommend!!

Anne Edwards brings Queen Mary to life in this book. This biography is well written and grabbed my attention from Chapter 1. I have to confess I’ve already listened to it twice. This is one of those books so packed full of history that it’s easy to miss important details. Queen Mary’s life, her relationship with her sons and with her husband are very revealing. She had a very loving marriage but that love didn’t translate well to her children. Im sure she felt love for them as children but she definitely had difficulty expressing it.

Anne Cleeves does a great job of bringing the Shetland Islands alive once again for the reader. Her characterization of the quirky islanders and beautiful remote scenery is once again a great backdrop for murder and intrigue. I’ve definitely added these remote isles off the coast of Scotland to my “must visit” list. As usual Jimmy Perez is his quiet brooding self in this novel, playing his cards close to the vest and managing to alienate the one woman who might be able to help him move on from Fran. Not a great thing to do when that woman happens to be your boss but fortunately there’s hope for a happy ending. This is supposedly Ms. Cleeves last foray to the islands and Jimmy. While I hope that isn’t true, I’m happy with where the characters ended up.

I definitely give this one 2 thumbs up!

While I enjoyed the book, it wasn't my favorite. The shifting of narration from character to character made it difficult to stay engaged. In particular the adult Dixon men seemed interchangeable to me. My favorite story line was Rebecca and Greg. I would have been happier if the story had focused on them. Still it was a decent book.

While this isn't my favorite book in the Lucas Davenport series, it was still a great listen. Most of my favorite characters made appearances. And it set the stage for Davenport's new career. Definitely recommend.

When I read this as a teenager I never realized how closely it mirrors the lord of the rings. It's just condensed into one book rather then a trilogy. I have listened to Scott Brick narrate stories before and enjoy his work but not with this one. His voicing of Shea was weak and annoying. Additionally his pronunciation of Shannara drove me nuts. He placed all the emphasis on the first syllable. I always assumed it was pronounced like Shannon with an ara.

There's something or someone in the London Underground. After the body is found in the Tube, Peter Grant is called in because something's just not right about the crime scene from the perspective of the regular cops. This story has a little bit of everything - art, romance, humor, death, and mole people. I would highly recommend it and all of the books in this series. If you haven't read one yet, they are a combination of Harry Potter, Dr. Who, and Sherlock Holmes.

If you like political and international intrigue, gun battles with terrorists and seat of your pants action, this is for you. Like all books in the Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn, there were no lulls in the action. Mitch Rapp is at his best, shooting first and asking questions later. CIA Director Kennedy continues to walk the line between political and strategic realities.

This particular story is about a potential nuclear attack in the nation's capital. The action takes place in Afghanistan, Georgia and Virginia and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. The scary thing about this book is it's realism. Vince Flynn had an uncanny grasp of the security situation in the world and it is reflected in all of his works. This story, like so many of his others, could actually happen and that's unnerving. This book highlights the permeability of our national borders both by sea and land and definitely makes you think. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes espionage thrillers.
