Historia
As a society, we suffer from nature deficit disorder, but studies have shown that spending mindful, intentional time around trees—what the Japanese call shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing—can promote health and happiness. In this beautiful audiobook, Dr. Qing Li, the world's foremost expert in forest medicine, shows how forest bathing can reduce your stress levels and blood pressure, strengthen your immune and cardiovascular systems, boost your energy, mood, creativity, and concentration, and even help you lose weight and live longer.

Inspired me to bring the outdoors in
Revisado: 03-12-23
I loved all the research about the heath benefits of walking in the forest. Dr. Li makes a compelling case for getting out in nature more. He also gives great suggestions for if that is not possible, like putting plants in the home or diffusing essential oils. Also, the narrator sounds like John Oliver.

Historia
In the mid-70s, Steve Martin exploded onto the comedy scene. By 1978 he was the biggest concert draw in the history of stand-up. In 1981 he quit forever. Born Standing Up is, in his own words, the story of "why I did stand-up and why I walked away".

Excellent
Revisado: 01-19-23
Steve Martin’s memoir of his standup career is so funny and inspiring that I listened to it again just 2 weeks after finishing it. And Steve’s narration is so smooth. I love that he incorporated banjo riffs and actually sang “Grandmother’s Song.” I wasn’t even alive when he was doing standup but because of this book, I’ve been watching all of his specials.

Simple Reminders

Carnegie had a special talent of weaving stories and information together to keep readers hooked. This drives the point home and makes us remember the lesson. His tips aren’t earth shattering revelations but simple pointers like remember to rest.

Historia
Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things—a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: Instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others. After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk’s path to share his experience and wisdom with others.

Historia
In the nearly two years since Anthony Bourdain's death, no one else has come close to filling the void he left. His passion for and genuine curiosity about the people and cultures he visited made the world feel smaller and more connected. Despite his affable, confident, and trademark snarky TV persona, the real Tony was intensely private, deeply conflicted about his fame, and an enigma even to those close to him. Tony’s devoted crew knew him best, and no one else had a front-row seat for as long as his director and producer, Tom Vitale.

This is a great listen if you love No Reservations or Parts Unknown. It’s also great for travelers in general. We get to know the behind-the-camera drama and what Tony was like. Vitals does a good job narrating.

Historia
Part foreign affairs discourse, part humor, and part twisted self-help guide, The Geography of Bliss takes the listener from America to Iceland to India in search of happiness, or, in the crabby author's case, moments of "un-unhappiness". This uses a beguiling mixture of travel, psychology, science and humor to investigate not what happiness is, but where it is.

Geography of Bliss
Revisado: 07-20-21
The author has a good narrative voice, so I found myself looking for little chores to do so I could keep listening. The subject matter was interesting and funny, and I especially loved the chapter on Bhutan.
